Magic- Coldplay
Dead in the Water- Ellie GouldingI stand on the hot asphalt and gravel that covers the roof of the Dauntless Headquarters. I see the familiar ledge and automatically think of going back home, only this time with Ty by my side.
Ty stands beside me, looking around. He stares at the ground with wide eyes and then at the edge of the building with glossy eyes. I put my hands on his shoulders as he begins to shake his head while mouthing something.
"Ty." I say. He looks at me but it's as if he's not even here. "Ty." I say. He finally stands still, just staring into my eyes.
"The glass wall, the gun, your father, Jeanine, Hannah!" He shouts random things and I look at him confusedly.
"What on earth are you talking about?" I ask him. His face is flushed. He shakes his head.
"No, no, no. I, I broke the glass wall and, and Hannah! No, Hannah." Ty cries, burying his head into my neck.
"What are you talking about, Ty?" I ask, "I don't know what delusion you're under but none of that ever happened." I tell him.
"Hannah, Hannah's okay?" He asks. I nod. He lets a sigh of relief slip from his lips. "Hannah said that, that she hated me, and then I was holding her and, and she got shot, and you told me you hated me—" he rambles on, and I tune him out, trying to figure out what exactly he's talking about.
I think about everything and then I remember exactly what he's talking about. It was a simulation. Jeanine went so deep into his subconscious that he thinks that the events he's talking about actually happened.
I grab his shoulders. "Ty, Ty, none of those things actually happened! It was a simulation. It was Jeanine. She tricked you. None of those things ever happened." I say, and relief floods over Ty's face.
"Okay then." Zeke says as he walks over to the ledge where the net is. "Now that that's over, let's go back into the compound." He says, and we nod. My father and Ashton trudge along behind Zeke, and Ty and I follow them.
Ty and I stand at the back of the line to jump in, Zeke and my father being the first two to jump. Ashton looks at Ty and I in disgust as we hold each other close and I comfort Ty, telling him that all of the horrible things that he thought happened never did.
"You two be sure to not moan too loud tonight, okay? You don't want the whole faction to hear you." Ashton says, and I look at Ty, my face red. Ty's face is red too, but all I do is kiss both of his glowing red cheeks.
Soon, Ashton jumps off, leaving just the two of us. "Do, do you think that we could just spend tonight, like, alone?" Ty asks me, his face still red. I nod, then kiss his cheek before I jump off of the ledge.
He looks down at me as I fall closer and closer to the net, and when I hit it and bounce back up, he smiles. I finally lay still in the net, the ropes holding my body and rocking me back and forth like my mother used to when I was little.
My father pulls me out. Soon, Ty's body falls into the net, and he just lays there with his eyes closed and a smile on his face before my father pulls him out.
He rolls out and stands up, wiping his hands on his black pants briefly before he follows us. We walk down the narrow hallway that leads to the chasm, Ashton saying goodbye to us before he walks away to his own apartment, near the Dining Hall.
