Pull yourself together!
Moniwa swallowed and cleared his throat, adjusting the collar of his uniform shirt as he watched the girl of his dreams walk down the hallway towards him. (L/n) (f/n) had been his best friend for years, and Moniwa had developed an embarrassingly large crush on her. She was so perfect with that wonderful (h/l) (h/c) hair of hers, and those entrancing (e/c) eyes, but he lacked the courage to confess to her.
He was so painfully awkward, and he thought that asking her out would make their relationship equally awkward if anything went wrong. So, instead, he simply his his true feelings for her and practically put himself into the friend zone before she could do it for him.
"Hey, Kaname!" she called happily as she approached him, pushing a few strands of silky hair behind her ear. Her smile always made him feel warm and fuzzy inside.
"Hey, (f/n)! Are you ready to go to the movies with us?" Moniwa asked hopefully as he glanced over at Kamasaki, Aone, and Futakuchi. They all nodded, and he turned his attention back to her, feeling his heart sink slightly when he noticed the frown on her face.
"I'm sorry; I can't go. I have a date with (boy's name). I can't believe I forgot to tell you!" she apologized, looking upset and guilty about the fact that she was ditching them, "He's supposed to be here..."
"O-Oh... Uh! Don't worry about it, (f/n)! It's okay. We can just hang out another time!" Moniwa suggested sheepishly as he rubbed the back of his neck.
(F/n) was about to respond, but her boyfriend surprised her by hugging her from behind, and Moniwa felt his heart plunge into the bottom of an internal abyss when she turned around and giggled as they exchanged greeting kisses. He shifted uncomfortably and averted his gaze.
"I'm sorry, Kaname," she said again as she walked past him with her boyfriend.
"It's okay!" Moniwa assured her.
Her face brightened slightly as if a burden had been lifted from her shoulders. "I'll see you at lunch tomorrow!" she called from over her shoulder. He gave her a small smile that soon faded when she wrapped her arms around her boyfriend and kissed him.
"Well that went fantastic," Futakuchi commented sarcastically.
Kamasaki frowned as he looked at Moniwa. "How many times are you just gonna let her walk all over you like that? Are you really okay with her ditching us for her nasty boyfriend?" he questioned.
Moniwa sighed deeply as the four of them headed out of the school and over towards the cinema downtown. "I mean, I don't particularly like it when she does that..."
"Then why are you continuing to let it happen? Do we need to review how many times you've been kicked to the curb?" Futakuchi asked.
Moniwa gazed up at the fluffy clouds in the sky as he recounted each of the times his best friend had ditched him for her boyfriend. She'd had quite a few boyfriends... And she'd also had to cancel hangouts at the last minute so that she could go on dates. She didn't even notice how hard Moniwa tried to interject and get his foot in the door of opportunity.
"You have to be assertive," Kamasaki instructed and patted his friend on the shoulder.
"I've been trying!" Moniwa cried as he ran his hands through his black and curly hair with frustration, "I wish I could be outgoing..."
"Keep trying," Aone stated.
And with that affirmation from his snowy-haired teammate, Moniwa set out to claim (f/n) as his and tell her how he really felt. Well, after she and her boyfriend broke up.

Later that night, long after Moniwa had parted with his friends and had headed home after the movie, he heard a knock on the door. He got up from where he sat on the floor, trying to do some studying, and walked over to the door before answering it.
He was surprised to find a very teary-eyed (f/n) at his doorstep, sniffling softly and wiping her eyes furiously with the sleeves of her sweater. "(F/n)...? What happened?!" Moniwa asked urgently as he put his arm around her shoulders and led her inside.
She let out a quiet sob before wrapping her arms around him and burying her face in his shoulder. "(Boy's name) broke up with me, and I found out that he was cheating on me!" she whimpered.
Her tight grip around Moniwa made him blush and hug her back tightly. Instinctively, he ran his hands through her hair and rested his chin atop her head. "What a jerk..." he mumbled, "Who would be stupid enough to do that to you?"
"I'm sorry for just appearing out of nowhere... I just really needed you," she admitted quietly as she clung onto him, her hands grasping the fabric of his shirt.
This comment made Moniwa blush even harder. "Well, I'll always be here for you," he assured her honestly. Maybe now would be a good time to tell her? No, I don't want to seem to desperate. But I am... Agh! What am I supposed to do?! "(F/n)..." he spoke before he could stop himself.
"Hmm...?" she murmured softly, still keeping her face firmly pressed into his shoulder.
"I don't think you should date anymore guys. To be honest, I think you'd be a lot better off dating... me!" he confessed, feeling embarrassment in the form of intense blushing, "I-I really like you and I have for a long time."
The girl didn't respond as she took her face out of his shoulder and looked up at him with watery (e/c) eyes. There was a long silence that made Moniwa squirm internally with discomfort before a bright smile appeared on her lips as she pressed them against his own. Moniwa' face glowed bright red and his eyes widened, but he soon returned her kisses.
"I like you a lot, Kaname," she said softly with a sheepish smile, "I feel so stupid for dating all of those other boys. All I've ever wanted has been right here." She hugged him for extra emphasis, and he kissed her cheek.
"I won't let anyone else come between us!" Moniwa promised as he hugged his new girlfriend tightly, as if she would disappear if he let go of her for a moment.
"Wow, you're not usually this assertive. What's gotten into you?" she asked jokingly.
"I want to treat you better than your other boyfriends have and show you why you should've chosen me first." It was a bold statement for him, but it was true.
In that moment, he realized that being assertive actually felt... refreshing. He could definitely get used to this.
