Imagine. You were cooking when you heard your 16 year old daughter coming intothe kitchen. "Hey" she says sweetly as she walks to you."Hey baby" you answer. She rolled her eyes and smiled, youknow it pissed her off, and you knew she's not the kind of annoyed teenager. "Can I help?" she asks as she looks at whatyou're doing. "No thanks sweetie. I'm almost finished" yourespond as you turn to her and smile. Sami kept looking at what you were doing as silence filled the room. You put the meal in the ovenand look at your daughter. You smile, you knew. Of course you knew."What's his/her name?" you ask as you lean against the counter. "What? What are you talking about?" she said witha fake confused face. Unfortunately, she started to blush. "Sam,I've been a teenager. I'm a woman and I'm your mom" you say with wide eyes. Sami sighed and sat on one of the chairs around the kitchen table. "...His name is Jeff" she blushed harder."And we're dating..." she adds. "That's cool! You like him?" you ask. "Before any kind of interview I would love to have with you...Daddy can't know about this" Sami said as she looked fixed at you. "Why not? I mean, he won't kill him oranything" you jokes. "No, but I will have the 'I know whatthat guy wants from you' talk. I know him, you know him, and youcan't promise that wouldn't happen so I don't want you to tell him"she explains. "Okay, if you want to" you say, and wait forher to tell you however she wants. "He's a junior, he's tall and so handsome!" she said excitingly. You smile and kept listeningto her. "We went to this party at Naomi's together and he askedme to be his girlfriend...and I said yes because he's so nice withme, mom" she said with a grin of her face. Her eyes, the same asyours, had a twinkle when she was talking about this Jeff. Ah, younglove. "But I don't know what I'm supposed to do now" shesaid as she looked at her hands. "I mean I know what love is. Iknow what it means to be a girlfriend. I mean, I've been living withyou and Dad for 16 years now" she rambled as she rolls her eyes. You giggle and sat on the chair in front of her. "Was Daddy yourfirst boyfriend?" she asked.

"Oh boy no. I met your father when I was 21 sweetie. I lived before too" you joke. "Tellme about your first boyfriend" she asks as she put her head inher hands and looked at you with a smile. "His name wasNicolas...and he was by far the worst kisser I've ever known"you laughed. Sami did too, and add "Jeff is a good kisser...I think...I've never kiss someone before him so I guess I can't reallytell". "Do you feel something when you kiss him?" youasked. She nodded. "So he is. If he was a bad kisser, all youcould think about would be when will he stop" you explain. Samilaughed again and kept looking at you with a smile. "You don'thave to worry about what it means to be a girlfriend. If you likehim, you're gonna do the things a girl do when she likes a boy and ifhe likes you, he would do the kind of things a boy does when he likesa girl and that's it. There's no rules in love, no 'you have to'. You decide, he decides. Welcome to the free world of love baby" yousay with a smile. Sami grins fondly at you and took your hand overthe table "Thank you Mommy". "You're welcome. I'm herefor that" you wink. "Tell me about your other boyfriends"she said excited. You both stayed hours talking in the kitchen, aboutyour first boyfriend, and your other firsts. You let her ask anythingshe wanted and she talked more about Jeff. It was beautiful to seeher so into a guy. Sometimes she reminds you at her age. You knewthis would eventually happen and you were prepared for that. Butsomething told you one of the guys in this house were not. Your girltalk lasted so much that you almost forgot to eat until the boys wentto complain about their bellies rumbling.
