Imagine. Darren was so excited to be able to take Sami to her very first guitar class. Even though she was only 5, she was pretty good at the guitar. Her father started to teach her very soon with little exercises. She was beyond excited when she found a little guitar among her birthday gifts. She really enjoyed playing and Darren was thrilled that his passion for music influenced her.
"Are you excited for your class?" Darren asked his little girl as he looked down at her. He was holding her guitar on his back and smiled at the bouncing toddler. She was holding his hand and had the biggest grin on her face. "Yeah!" she exclaimed happily, "Supermega excited!". Darren giggled and took the girl into a building. But as soon as he opened the door, he felt Sami holding his hand tighter. A lot of kids were running around, most of them seemed younger but some older than Sami was. He looked down at his daughter who was watching her surroundings with worries.
A guy, who Darren assumed must be the teacher, came to welcome them. "Hello!" he said joyfully as Sami slowly hid behind her father's legs. Darren shook his hand and smiled at him before looking at Sami. "What do we say, Sam?" he reminded her. "Hi" she said quietly. Darren giggled. "Sorry, she's a little shy" he explained. "It's okay. We're used to it" he said and kneeled down. "Do you like playing guitar Sam?" the teacher asked. Sami simply nodded. "Well looks like you're in the right place!" he smiled. "How about you take your guitar and get yourself comfortable?" he proposed. Sami looked at him for a second before she tugged at her father's shirt. She extended her arms to him so he would pick her up and he did. "Sorry, she was excited five minutes ago" Darren chuckled as Sami hide her face in his neck. "It's okay. You can come with her if that helps her" he suggested with a shrug. "Thanks" Darren said. He felt tears wetting his shirt and that's when he got worried. "We'll be back in a second" he said and left the building to have some quiet time with his daughter.
"Sami, don't cry baby" he said smoothly and rubbed his hand up and down her back as she put her arms around her father's neck. "I don't wanna go" she managed to say with a teary voice. "You were so excited about it before we went in" he remembered. The little girl pulled back and looked down at her tiny hands. "Guitar is fun, but there's too many persons" she said. "People" Darren giggled. "Look, it's like that time we went tree climbing. You were scared at first but Mommy and I helped you a little and then what happened?" he asked to the little girl. "I did it all by myself" she remembered. "Twice. And you did it like a champ!" he grinned. Sami was finally showing off a smile. "You're always gonna do things in life that seems too hard at first, but if you perservere and work hard, you'll get there" Darren said as he looked right into his daughter's eyes. "And it's the same thing with friends! You don't know anyone but that doesn't mean you won't be friends with some of those kids! I promise that everything will be alright, sweetheart" he claimed. "Pinky promise?" she asked and held her hand out to her father. "Pink promise" Darren giggled and intertwined his with her daughter's.
"I love you, Daddy" Sami said and hugged her father. "I love you too Princess" he exclaimed with a big smile. He put her back on the ground and held his hand to her, "Should we go make some friends?". The little girl nodded and smiled and both reentered the building to have a fun first guitar class.
