Imagine. Darren and you were hanging out, discussing your days while the kids were playing in your daughter's room. As you admired the hazel sparkle of your husband's eyes, the power went out. Everything went pitch black. You excepted the two little screams before you even heard them. "I'm gonna see what's up" Darren informed you. You both took out your phones to be able to walk to your respective objectives. For you, Sami's room, and for him, the basement. "What's going on?" you heard Kyle ask in a teary voice. Your 3 year old was on the verge of crying for sure. "It's okay, Kyle. Mom and Dad are gonna fix it" his sister reassured him. You pointed the phone at them to see them bundled up on the bed. You smiled at the sight. "You okay?" you said and sat on the bed with them. Kyle ran into your arms and hugged you as if his life depended on it. Sami seemed okay with being in the dark. "Why don't we have light anymore?" she asked. "I don't know, sweetie" you answered. Darren came behind you with bad news. "I can't put it back on. Seems like the problem didn't come from the house" he explained. You sighed. How long were you supposed to stay in the dark with two young kids? You all gathered in the living room, Kyle still desperately hanging on you. You rubbed his back to reassure him. Darren went to get some candles and put them on the coffee table as you all settled on the floor around them. He took a match and lit them all. "Happy birthday to you" Kyle started to sing. You frowned for a second before bursting out laughing with the rest of the family. "Baby, the lights are here to help us, not for a birthday" Darren explained after he stopped laughing. Kyle pouted. He would not have the occasion of blowing out the candles tonight. You all sat around telling stories to the kids and playing with them in the light of the candles until they eventually fell asleep in both of your arms. When the power came back two hours later, Darren and you sighed in relief. You both picked up a kid and walked down the hall. As you were about to separate to enter their rooms, you leaned and delivered a kiss on his lips. Without a word, he winked and went to put Kyle in bed as you put your daughter down. He would always be the light in your darkness.
