Protecting them

Imagine. "You look very handsome" you said as you adjust your husband's tie. "Thank you, darling. I have a beautiful date too" he winked. You grinned. You were getting ready to go to an event with Darren. With a beautiful suit and a beautiful dress that matched for the occasion, you both looked like the perfect married couple that you were. "Darren! Y/n! Time to go!" your manager informed you. She was waiting for you in the living room with Darren's manager to go. You went out of the room hand in hand with your husband and saw your friends smiling. "Mommy!" your daughter stopped you and almost made you fall when she suddenly stood in the way of your legs. "Honey, Daddy and I have to go so tell me now before I squeeze you hard" you smiled. "I wanna go with you!" your 9 years old stated. You rolled your eyes discreetly. It wasn't the first conversation you had with her on the subject. "Princess, we already talked about this. You can't go with us to professionals events" Darren reminded her. "But I want a pretty dress and I wanna take pictures too!" Sami cried out. She was definitely having a moment. "Sam, it's no. We told you it's not a place where we want you to be for now. It can be very overwhelming" you felt like you repeated yourself over and over on this. Sami always begged to come along at some events ever since she turned 7. "I can take it!" she said dramatically, "Please!" she cried as she latched on both yours and Darren's legs. "Guys, the car is waiting" your manager reminded you as she looked out the window. "Listen" Darren said as he kneeled down to his daughter "Once you're 16, and able to understand everything that can happen there, and if you feel like you're able to do it, we'll take you. But you're too young for now. That's what Mommy and I decided, okay?". "16?" the girl repeated. Darren nodded. She seemed to think for a second and then looked down at her fingers to count.   "That's too far away!" she exclaimed once she finally understood how many years she'd have to wait. "What about 10? Can I choose once I'm 10?" she argued. "Sam, look at me" you said and did your best not to fall when you kneeled in your heels. "Daddy and I said 16, so it's 16. You'll understand when you're older. For now, you're gonna have a ton of fun with Auntie Lauren and your brother and I'm sure it's gonna be way more fun than having a pretty dress and taking pictures. Okay?" you looked at her in the eyes. "Okay" she said, realizing she will not win this case tonight. "Come on, give us kisses" Darren said and took her into his arms. He showered her face with slight kisses and you hugged her tight. "Ariel!" Kyle exclaimed as he showed to his father his Ariel princess. "Yeah that's right buddy!" Darren smiled, "Mommy and I gotta go" he kissed him too, just like you. After a few waves and unnecessary instructions to Lauren, you were finally able to go out and get in that car. "We made the right decision right? About not letting them come with us?" you asked Darren. You needed a confirmation that what you did was right, and good for your kids. Your husband tilted his head and took your hands in his. "Of course we did. It's not a world for a kid to be in. They deserve to have a childhood as normal as we can offer, without thousands of pictures of them everywhere" he smiled. "Alright" you nodded and kissed him quickly. "I loved how she tried, though" he giggled. "Will she ever stop?" you said jokingly. "I won't count on that" Darren replied. You both had a busy night of pictures, interviews and meetings. You couldn't imagine your kids being bombarded with flashes or being used to promote products for your career. They deserved a nice childhood. Something you and Darren tried to provide to them everyday. Love, care and a family.
