~*Jacks POV*~
I keep my hand firmly placed on Violet the whole time we walk. She tells me what happened when I left and how much she suffered. I feel bad, I wish I could've helped her, but she seems okay now. I've always known that she has a burning fire in her soul, a passion that never goes out. She's strong, one of the strongest people I know. The team she's with are cool, but their captain died back at JC. From what I've heard, he was a good man, but a quiet one. One of the guys, Fin, he seems to have a good spirit, but he doesn't seem like a fighter. The girl, Wendy, she's tough and has a good sense of humor. Duncan, I believe he's the only one really fit to be a soldier in this team. He'll probably be the next team captain. Violet looks up at me and smiles softly.
"I'm glad that you're coming home and I was the one to find you." She says, resting her head on my shoulder lazily while we walk.
"I wrote a note to you, and I don't think you found it, but it basically told you not to go looking for me." I laugh and playfully roll my eyes. "And turns out you're the one to find me." I add, laughing at my own bad comedy.
"I did find it actually, but when do I ever listen?" Violet chuckles and pulls out a folded paper from her breastplate. I guess that's my note then. She's always so stubborn, even after seeing my note she goes running after me, how sweet. I run my finger over her waist, I've missed her, and just being near her is soothing.
"So, Jack, how long were you at the compound JC? And why did they want to execute you?" Duncan questions me suddenly. I take in a breath and nod, it makes sense he would ask, he's bringing me to his home compound and wants to make sure it's safe. Sometimes Violet's opinion of me isn't enough, especially when it's the military who's only seen he kidnapped and almost being killed.
"Well, I've been there only a few days and everyday Carter went to see me. Then, one day they asked me to see.their leader. It was an old lady and she asked me all these questions about Violet. I just answered her questions and she freaked out and said that she was going to kill me." I explain and glance down at Violet afterwards.
"What did she ask you?" She asks me, staring up at me with curiosity in her eyes.
"She asked me where I worked, and I answered honestly. That's the one where she freaked out and threatened my life." I answer.
"That makes sense... The woman you met... Her name was Janice Clark, she was my mother. She must've recognized the name of the asylum and knew I was there." Violet states in a grim tone. I remember when I saw Violet from inside the bars of my prison, awaiting death. The old woman, Janice, Violet's mother was there. She was telling everyone some story about something, I wasn't really listening. Then Violet came through the door with her team and she had them unlock my cell. She was talking with her mother, until she cracked and screamed, with that she shot her mother in the head. It was interesting to see, I didn't understand it at first. Then I realized that she screamed "you killed my child", and all the shock hit me.
"What asylum?" Duncan asks with a confused expression on his face.
"My mother put me in a mental asylum to try to get rid of me. Jack worked there as a doctor." Violet explains before I can. She's quick to talk, but that's not a bad thing. Duncan nods slowly, probably just taking in the information. Not many people know how Violet and I met, and I suppose some people don't need to know. We continue walking in an eerie silence for a long while, in which time I don't let go of Violet at all. Even though she fiddles with her thumb and we can see our compound now. Only when we get close to the main gate to I finally let go of her. She probably has to speak to someone and it might be weird if I was there, hanging on the wife of Shane. That whole deal bothers me, she didn't have to marry him. She could've married me and been just as happy, or happier. I get that she was mad at the time, but marriage is a very long time and I wanted to spend that time with her. I didn't want her to spend her life with another man, especially not one that she doesn't even love. But there's nothing I can do about it now, and I'm not going to call her out on it anytime soon. I still do have plans on marrying her after all, even if we don't wear ribbons anymore, our promise still stands.
"Who is there?" A man at the top of the wall shouts down at us. Duncan steps forward, in front of Violet and I can tell she's annoyed.
"Team 4 with two extras. We are returning from a full military based mission. We have found the target and have with us Mrs. Violet Lancaster. Awaiting permission to enter." Duncan speaks like a robot, like it's his protocol to explain every bit of who we are. I hear faint laughter from the top and the guns stay pointed at us. I was weak last time I entered this place, but I'm pretty sure they all lowered their guns for us. Violet has a confused look on her face as well, something about this isn't quite right. Duncan clears his throat and takes in a breath.
"Do we have permission to enter?" He shouts again. I look at the other team members who seem to also be confused and a bit annoyed.
"Hey, we have the leader's wife with us. Let us in, or let us talk to Shane himself!" Wendy yells at them in an extremely annoyed tone.
"Yeah, if you want to have proof, let me talk to Shane. He wouldn't stand for this." Violet declares sternly. I notice one of the snipers at the top move ever so slightly.
"But what power does he have? You've been gone for a while, and things have changed." Someone at the top shouts down with a booming laugh that echo's through the area. Violet has a moment of fear flash in her eyes and she gulps deeply.
"Who is it that I'm speaking to?" Duncan shouts back, with a very stern tone.
"Oh, I was supposed to be 'locked up forever', but as you can tell, that didn't work out too well." I recognize that voice, and what he said and then it comes to me. It's Ian.
