~*Flashback*~

I wake up to the sound of people shouting downstairs. I sigh and roll myself out of bed. It's my birthday after all, and it's about time I get ready and accept that fact. My twin cousins, Alex and Will are coming over today. They're the only real family of mine I enjoy the company of. I get along better with Alex than Will, but he's still cool. My mother had asked me what I wanted for my birthday, but all I responded with was "I want to see the twins." I don't get to see them often, my mother doesn't like a lot of our family after all. It's rare for me to see the twins, but today is one of those rare occasions. I get undressed, out of my cheep pajamas that my aunt had bought be for Christmas last year. I then grab a plain black t-shirt and blue skinny jeans to go with it. I've never been one of those people who dress up for their birthday, or any occasion really. The yelling downstairs has stopped. That's how conversations go between my mother and her brother, my uncle, go. Not many people get along with my mother, not even I do. I guess I have to face her today though, she is getting some of my only friends to hang out with me after all. At school I don't really have friends, none that are close and know much about me anyways. They're more like an excuse to not sit alone at lunch. The only people who really know me and I would actually call friends are Alex and Will. That's why I only invited them to my "party". It isn't really a party in all honesty, it's more like my mom yelling and my friends and I hiding in my room. We then sneak downstairs once she's gone to sleep and take some food back to my room so we can have "dinner". That's just how my birthdays go, just as awful as the rest of the year, except, I have friends for this one day. I walk to the door to my room, and take in a breath. I've always hated the days when my mother wakes up before me, so much that I used to set an alarm so I didn't have to deal with it. She is normally in a bad mood in the morning and I just decided to ignore that. I finally grow the courage to twist the doorknob, but I still hesitate to open the door. I'm scared, I've always been scared... Of her... I take in a shaky breath at just the thought. I creep out of my room, glancing in every direction just in case, but there's no sight of her. I make my way down the dark hallway that leads to the staircase. I have to face her, I have to go downstairs. This simple task won't hurt me, I have to be strong, but I've never been good at that. I slink down the stairs, clinging to the railing as much as possible. I keep my eyes at the bottom, just waiting for my doom that is just sitting there. I suddenly hear a loud banging on the front door, someone knocking. I hear a groan in annoyance and footsteps stomp over to the door. I stop in my tracks completely, and just sit on the stairs. The front door is unlocked, the clanging of the locks echoing towards me. The door opens with a creaking noise and then I hear a familiar laugh downstairs, but it quickly stops.
"Hi Aunt Janice, how are you today?" One of the twins asks, it's probably Alex, he's always been more polite than Will.
"I'm fine, Alex, how are you?" My mother responds. I take in another breath, just hearing her voice scares me.
"I'm doing wonderful, and so is my brother, even if he won't admit it." Alex admits with a sigh.
"Who says I won't admit it? I'm doing great, I'm not gonna lie, little bro." Will says, he's probably smirking at this point.
"You're only older by 2 and a half hours..." Alex grumbles in annoyance. Will always uses that, always calling him little, as if it were true. Will is a bit immature, Alex being a complete voice of reason to them both.
"Yeah, yeah, but, whatever." Will says in a casual tone. I stay hidden on the stairs, I don't want to make my mother mad. She gets mad over any little thing I do, so I don't know what reaction she would have if I came down now.
"So, more importantly, where is the birthday girl?" Alex questions, changing the topic suddenly.
"Yeah, I'm sure she's beaming this morning." Will says with a loud chuckle.
"She actually hasn't come down yet, but she's probably already awake." My mother states in a voice that, to some, could sound kind, but I know better. Yeah, I'm awake, I kinda woke up to your shouting.
"Oh, we'll head up and surprise her then." Alex says. He has good excuses, that's one of his many skills, he always seems so logical, in all his sentences. It doesn't matter what he says, it sounds completely true and logical, it's a very useful skill. They probably didn't bring my uncle, he doesn't want to see my mother and be yelled at again. The twins don't live very far away anyways, or they could take the bus. I stand on the steps and make my way to the top, to wait for them. Alex and Will jump up the stairs, and instantly they spot me, but continue up casually. Alex wears a bright red shirt that opposes his brother's dark blue one that Will wears today.
"Happy birthday." Will whispers as he embraces me at the top of the staircase.
"Thank you." I reply in a whisper just as he did. Alex then hugs me and doesn't speak a word. He probably just doesn't want us to get caught, but for some reason it doesn't seem that way at the same time. We all walk in silence to my bedroom. The rest of the day we would talk and catch up with one another in that room. Late that night my mother had taken me into her car. It woke me up, as I sat in the back of the car in fear. She took me to an asylum, and the next day I met Jack, who broke me out. What a fun birthday, it's to be expected when you live with my mother. She's awful, and sometimes I wish her dead.

A/N
I thought this chapter would be perfect for a little back story on Violet, especially because now her awful mother is dead now. What do you guys think will happen next? Let me know in the comments. I promise that this stuff is related to the story, it will matter a lot more later. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed and I'll see you all later!
