~*Kyle's POV*~
"Why did you threaten me? When you tried to make Shane play the game." I ask, finally building up my courage. My brother, no matter how much I care for him, I'm so much more scared of him. As soon as he got out he started killing. First, it was a few people in the police station, then it became random people on the street. Then, it was that poor girl, Maddie, he raped her, and locked her in a cell. And just now, he killed that man and that girl he kidnapped, Violet, she was so upset. I can't believe he went that far, especially after all he did to her. I wish I could go and apologize to them all, but I'm afraid that if I do, my brother will kill me next.
"I was playing, you were playing, it was nothing." Ian replies with a slight chuckle. I run my hand through my hair and look over the edge of the wall. Ian likes it up here, I think he just likes the idea of him owning it all, like Shane had.
"I just didn't think you'd go that far. And what about Mark? What happened to him?" I question, glancing at Ian for his answer.
"I sent him home, with the other two." Ian says with a few more laughs escaping his laugh.
"Ian, why are you murdering so many people? Why can't we just leave here and let all these people go?" I ask him, concerned and trying to help everyone here.
"Well, it isn't murder if they don't find the body, it's just a missing person." He says, beginning to laugh hysterically at his own words and terrible crimes.
"Ian, I'm serious. We should leave and live somewhere else. These people did nothing to us, and we don't have any reason to stay here. Let's just leave, make our own compound, and let all these people live their lives again." I suggest, hoping it got through to him. I remember that I was the only one who could when we were young. I just hope that hasn't changed, when everything else has.
"Oh, baby brother... I'm not nearly done playing with these people, I have so many more games to play, and there's players who have just been watching so far, and need to play. You don't... Understand, Kyle. I am having so much fun, and I don't wanna leave just yet." Ian says, his eyes, completely bloodshot and wide. His laughs echoing through the emptyness around us. I put my head down and try to ignore the fact itching at my mind. Ian isn't acting like the brother I used to know and love, it's as if he's become someone entirely new. He's ruining this place, not just any place, my home and the homes of so many others. I can't stand by here much longer, watching him rule with a destructive and terrifying reign.
"I'm gonna go take a walk, Ian, I'll be back in a bit." I declare as I get up from my seat and start towards the ladder by the edge.
"Okay. I'll be here." Ian laughs, waving his hand goodbye to me. I sigh and get on the ladder to get down, away from my brother. I don't know who Ian has become, but I don't like it one bit. He used to read all these books about torture, but I never thought he'd actually do something like that, I guess I was wrong. I walk along the streets, everything looks so worn and broken now, it saddens me to see it this way. I should've listened to Shane, I should've just left Ian in his cell and then none of this would be happening. But, I might be able to fix my mistake, before it ruins things too much.I get to what Ian has been calling "the house," which is actually Maddie's home. He's put bolts on it and made it so that he can lock it from the outside, and nothing inside can open it. My brother put a lot of effort to make everything go his way, but now, I don't really like his way. There's only one guard outside the house when I get there, it probably doesn't need much more than the bolts. As I begin walking towards it my hands start shaking again, damn anxiety. The gaurd looms above me and scoffs at the sight of me.
"What do you want?" He sighs at me in a slightly annoyed tone.
"I-I need to t-talk to people i-in there." I stammer nervously.
"You're Ian's brother, right?" He asks lazily, leaning his body against the doorframe.
"Yeah." I respond, looking down at the ground.
"Alright, you can go in, but be fast, these ones have been acting out lately." The gaurd informs me. He grabs a key hanging on a chain next to the door and pushes it in the keyhole. He then twists it and unlocks the door and pulls out what looks to be a tazer and points it inside the door when he opens it. He then looks to me and nods, holding the door open slightly for me. I grab it with shaky hands and sweat palms, slowly creaking it open for myself. I walk inside, it's very dark in here except for a single light on the back wall. Three men sit on the floor and glance up at me when I enter with disappointed looks.
"Hi..." I say awkwardly, breaking the silence.
"You're Ian's brother, right?" One of them questions me as he adjusts his glasses on his bruised face. I sigh heavily and avoid looking in their eyes and nod.
"You pointed that gun at Shane, it distracted him. You helped Ian to take this place from him and basically our last grain if hope. At least he isn't dead though, but you didn't help any. But, what do you want? I have nothing to say." The man known as Mark speaks to me in an angered tone. He has a right to be angry, and he doesn't even know that we did kill one of his friends.
"I know you probably don't want to see me, but I want your help." I admit, taking in a deep breath to look at the men. They all feed me confused expressions, they don't believe me.
"My brother... He wasn't like this when I knew him. I don't agree with what he's doing, and I want to put everything back to normal and fix my mistakes. I need help though, I can barely even hold a weapon, and I'm not match for my brother. But, that girl, if I can get her out, we can get everything right again... Right?" I say, tears beginning to swell in my eyes. I sniffle them back and feel my hands shaking even more by my sides.
"What girl? You mean, Violet? She's back? And what about Jack?" Mark jumps up, asking me questions.
"The girl... Yeah, her name was Violet." I mumble back to him.
"What about Jack? Where did they put him? He can help us with this too, and he probably has more supplies than any of us do." Mark explains with a side smile on his face. My palms get sweatier and sweatier as he speaks to me. Ian called the man he shot... Jack. I swallow over the lump in my throat and take in a shaky breath.
"Ian... H-he ended up p-playing the game w-with Jack... And he l-lost..." I stutter, my anxiety getting worse BT the second.
"What?" The man in the back shouts, suddenly entering the conversation. My whole body shakes and I nod and I look down at my feet.
"Are you telling us that he's dead? No, that can't be right." Mark says in a panic. "He can't be dead, maybe you just didn't hear the name right. Yeah, that must be it. Jack is okay, where did they put him? We need him... I need his help with this!" Mark shouts at me, making my shaking get even worse.
"Mark... Stop..." The one with glasses says, interrupting Mark's rampage.
"But... No... Jack..." Mark breaks down with tear streams going down his cheeks and his legs failing do he falls to his knees.
"I-I-I'm s-so s-sorry. I-I couldn't d-do anything." I admit, keeping my eyes pinned to the ground.
"He... Was a really... Good man... There's a lot, but I can't say it all..." Mark mumbles to himself while the tears flow down his cheeks.
"Are you absolutely certain that the man killed was Jack? Can you describe him, and how the girl, Violet, reacted to it? It may give us a better picture to truly identify him." The man with glasses says with a nod.
"W-well..." I stutter, trying to think back to the event. "He had brown hair and these really, really bright blue eyes. Violet was screaming and ran at him. She tried throwing knives and shooting Ian afterwards, but she missed every time. She was crying and screaming, she then said that she would carry Jack herself, she didn't let anyone else touch his body. I think she whispered something to him once he got shot. And, when they came in, he volunteered to 'play' in her place, and she was hanging on him like they were lovers." I explain, trying to recall the memory as best as I can. The man with glasses sighs and takes off his glasses while a few tears begin coming.
"It was him... Violet wouldn't do that for just anybody. Where did they take Violet after... After the incident?" He says in a hoarse voice.
"To the police station cells. They locked up all of them, Shane and this girl that my brother seems obsessed with, Maddie." I respond. He nods and wipes the streams on his face with the back of his hand. Mark sobs on the floor, completely falling apart at the news. The man in the back has tears on his face too, but his eyes dart to me when I say Maddie's name.
"What did he do to Maddie?" He asks me. I recognize this guy, his red hair seems familiar somehow. That's when I place it, he was at Maddie's home when we found her. He protected her and tried to fight us away from her. I sigh and shake my head, he doesn't want to know.
"He locked her up too." I respond.
"After he raped her." He adds with a certain fire in his soul that glistens in his eyes. I take in a shaky breath and reluctantly nod. He nods back and balls his fists by his sides, cracking his knuckles fiercely.
"So... I hate to ask now, but I don't know when I'll get a chance next... Will you guys help me get my brother out if power?" I question, glancing at the hurt bunch in front of me.
"Yes. Just tell us when we can kill that son of a bitch." Mark spits the words, looking up at me, fury in his eyes.
