"Violet, have you seen my tie? It's black with a lighter shade of gray stripes." Shane announces as he comes out of the bathroom that is connected to our room. I sit on my bed which is farthest from the entrance. I glance around and find the tie lying on Shane's bed, perfectly folded. I stand and grab the tie, slowly walking it to Shane.
"Here you go." I say happily while I wrap it around the collar of his shirt and begin tying it.
"Thank you..." Shane mumbles with a small smile coming to his lips.
"Not a problem. We have to play the part of husband and wife, after all." I laugh quietly as I finish tying the tie and look at it happily.
"Yes... But, do you have your dress for the dinner yet? I can send someone to go get one for you, or you can go with Maddie. I believe she is going to get hers soon." Shane tells me while he runs his hand through my matted hair.
"I don't know... I might just ask Maddie to get one for me. I don't want to go dress shopping right now, not yet at least. Considering the last dress I wore..." I trail off and feel my head dropping to face the ground.
"I know... I should just send someone to get it for you and Maddie both." Shane tells me, suddenly dropping his business tone completely. I look up at him and sigh.
"Thank you... Seriously, thank you, Shane." I whisper while keeping my eyes staring into his.
"You're welcome... This isn't a problem for me, anything I can do to help you, I will always do." Shane whispers back, keeping his hand placed on the back of my head lovingly.
"That's sweet, Shane, and I really do appreciate everything you do for me. But... I'm not ready to be in a relationship right now, not after what happened. Of course, I'll play the part of your wife, but I can't really be that to you right now. That doesn't mean I'm not thankful, because I am so thankful of everything you've done... I'm still trying to heal right now, since Jack..." I pause and try to hold back the tears that threaten to come pouring out of my eyes.
"I get it. You need time, and I'll give you time. And I'm sorry if it seemed like I was trying something other than that." Shane releases me and nods. He buttons up his black vest, completing his look. I smile at the sight and return to my place on my bed.
"I'll send someone to get your dress, Maddie's as well. I won't make either of you go dress shopping at a time like this." Shane tells me as he exits the room and closes the door behind him.
"Thank you..." I mumble into the empty room.

***

I hear a knock at my bedroom door, breaking the empty nothingness I had been hearing before. I crawl out of my bed and open the door. Maddie stands with two dresses in either hand.
"Which do you want?" She asks me in a dark tone. I look at her with a confused expression.
"You can choose first..." I mumble, turning my eyes to stare at the ground beneath my feet.
"But I'm letting you choose first. It's the least I can do after... After bringing Ian and him killing everyone." Maddie states as tears slip form her eyes and go down her cheeks.
"I'm sorry for that. I shouldn't have blamed you. It isn't your fault that Ian came and killed people." I tell her as I pull her in for a hug. The dresses fall to the floor as Maddie holds me tightly and begins sobbing into my shoulder. Her fingernails dig into my back while her cries go through the halls of our home. Tears begin coming from my eyes as well. I grip her back as well and then begin sobbing almost at the same time. There we stand, in the hallway of a home in District 6, crying and holding onto one another. I hear footsteps run down the hall and then a sigh of relief.
"Maddie, are you okay?" Emmet questions in a concerned tone.
"I'm... I'm fine..." Maddie stutters through her sobs. Emmet nods and leans against the wall next to us.
"What's going on here?" Shane's booming voice comes down the hall suddenly. I clear my throat and slowly release from Maddie.
"Sorry, Shane... I just..."
"It was my fault." Maddie says while she releases from me and smiles at me through her tears. Shane sighs and picks the dresses off the ground.
"The dresses came in. Which are you having Violet?" Shane questions as he examines each of them.
"Maddie, you choose first. It's the least I could do after I made you cry." I say with a childish smirk. Maddie shakes her head at me and wipes away her tears with the back of her hand.
"Emmet, you were going to wear your red tie, right?" Maddie asks him, her voice now back to how it normly is.
"Yeah, that was my plan." He says, nodding slowly.
"I'll take the red one." She announces, grabbing the dress of her choice from Shane's hand.
"I guess you'll have the silver then." Shane states, stretching his hand to give me the dress. I take it and nod happily.
"We're gonna match." I chuckle, while looking over his outfit again.
"I suppose we will." Shane chuckles softly.
"Mr. And Mrs. Lancaster, the matching couple." I say smiling at him brightly. Shane smiles at the floor and nods slowly.
"Yes, that's us." He comments happily.
