Dressed In Black

I step out of the midnight black limousine and take in a deep breath of the fresh, outside air. It's a nice day I suppose, even though today will not be a nice day because of what is happening. There is one large building here, and it has people crowding all the way outside the door, all of them dressed in pure black. I sigh heavily and look over the building, it doesn't quite look like a church, more like an office that has been remodeled to look like a professional place.
"This place is the only one that can fit everyone. It's was a school, then turned into an office, then they removed all the rooms and made it into a type of social gathering thing." Rebecca explained while she walked next to me with her high heels getting stuck in the ground slightly.
"Why did it have to be this big?" Mark asks while he walks towards the building on my left side.
"Because everyone knew Shane, even if they didn't know him well, they knew him." I state while releasing a heavy sigh and crossing my arms over my chest to stop from getting myself more upset.
"You're right. You really were a lucky girl, Violet. I know Shane never would hurt you, he was such a great guy. My dad actually wanted me to marry him at a point, but I said no because he was more like family to me." Rebecca tells me, this time she releases a heavy sigh. I nod slowly and force a smile to my lips.
"I really was lucky." I reply while avoiding her gaze in a type of regret that I never actually told Shane just how amazing he was. Of course I thanked him and showed that I cared, but I knew he wanted more than that. He wanted me to share his feelings and live happily ever after with him, but that was what I wanted with Jack. I take in a deep breath and nod slowly to myself to try and break away from my feelings that I have buried for so long. We get to the edge of the people in back that line the entire outside portion of the building. As we walk further, people whisper and stare at me while making a path, allowing us to go through them.
"That's Mrs. Lancaster." I hear some whisper and some even point directly at me. I choose to ignore it and keep walking with both Rebecca and Mark who are now behind me.
"Mrs. Lancaster, is it true that one of the District Owners killed your husband?" A woman questions me while shoving a small microphone in my face.
"We aren't answering questions here, get away from us." Rebecca demands sternly.
"Is the murderer of your husband going to be revealed soon?" Another asks me, this time a camera poised at me.
"You all are vultures looking for a story, leave her alone." Rebecca snaps again, this time giving the second woman a shove away from us. I sigh heavily now that we have finally entered the actual building. It is very large, and it has rows upon rows of seats that are completely full. This is probably the most people I've seen in such a long time. There might be about 35 or 40 rows that reach lengths of almost twenty feet. They are all crowded with heads that turn to stare at me. Even the areas between the rows have people standing and sitting just to get a glimpse of what is happening here. I walk over some and past all of them, only getting more stares. I try to keep my breathes steady, but it doesn't seem to work. I don't know how Shane dealt with all this attention so well. As I get closer to the front, I can't help but sigh heavily at the sights. There is a large picture frame that holds a picture of Shane while he wears one of his classic suits. His hair is parted perfectly, and the smile on his face is one of his rare ones that only certain people had the privilege to see. In the center, there is a dark brown, wooden coffin that I can tell is closed. I'm glad, people shouldn't see how he looks now, he would be furious. It would have been such an embarrassment in his eyes, for people to see how he looks after death, and a gruesome death like he suffered.
"Violet? Oh, hey, Violet." A familiar, male voice calls me from one of the rows. I turn my head and give a slight smile at the familiar face of Wade.
"Oh, hey. Thank you for coming." I greet with my gentle tone.
"Yeah, of course. They gave you a reserved seat in the front, I don't know if they did for anyone else though." Wade explains, his eyes glancing towards the front few rows of seats.
"Do you guys have seats?" I question while trying to see behind him to answer my question.
"Yeah, they're back here though. You might be able to get one or two seats up there, they'll probably only move for you." Wade states with a small nod that makes me do the same.
"You're right." I sigh and turn to face both Rebecca and Mark.
"I can sit with them, you and Rebecca were closer with him." Mark explains while he slowly attempts to make it through the crowd towards Wade and the others who stand behind him.
"Actually, if it isn't a problem with you, Rebecca, I want Mark to sit with me at the front." I speak in more of a mutter, hoping that my request won't make Rebecca upset with me.
"That's fine. As long as I'm here, I'm happy with it." Rebecca gives me a friendly smile and Mark nods.
"We'll meet up with you guys after, okay?" Mark calls to Wade before we begin walking down the isle, getting closer and closer to the front.
