"Shane, you can't do this. We both know that he won't play fairly." Wade scolds me once Ian leaves our presence.
"I have to try at least... Too many people have died, too many people that I'm supposed to be responsible for. It's my turn to make it up to them, to make their deaths mean something." I respond, slightly pulling out a gun I have kept on my belt. He glances at it and takes in a deep breath, nodding.
"Fine... We'll be here if you need us, just be careful with him. We've already lost a friend, and we don't need to lose another one." Wade sighs, leaving his hand on my shoulder. I have to force myself not to cry and simply smile instead.
"Thank you... I've... Never had friends before..." I admit in a shaky tone of voice.
"Really?" Bob asks me, obviously confused.
"Yes..." I reply, turning my head to avoid meeting their gaze.
"Our group counts you as a friend. You're friends with Violet and you've helped us a lot. You're cool Shane... Even if you don't laugh at many of my jokes." Wade chuckles lightly which moves to me ad well.
"I'm glad I've been helpful, and to have friends..." I state, finally allowing myself to look forward again.
"Alrighty Shane... I've got all of it set up." Ian comes around the corner with a smile plastered on his face.
"Wish me luck, I'll be back..." I tell them in a hushed voice before I begin walking towards Ian.
"You ready, Shane?" He taunts with his hands dangling by his sides.
"Certainly." I respond. I've never been more ready than I am right now. I want to do this, to save my compound for myself. To finally be recognized as a hero, something I never dreamed would happen to me. I mean, of course there are going to be people who grow up to be heroes, but I never thought I'd ever have a chance to be one. I suppose even after this, I'll just be one man who did the right thing. I won't be any hero, and I'm not even sure I want to be one. That's right, I'm no hero, I'm a businessman.
"Pick the gun, Shane, I promised that you could." Ian grins widely while he leads me around the corner and to an area right in front of the wall. It's near the ladder and it looks like all of Ian's men disarmed themselves and placed their guns here. Many bullets in their shells lie in a pile on a table next to all of the guns.
"Each if them was done differently. All my men organized them for me, so I don't even know which one has which style of bullets." Ian explains as he crosses his arms and watches me with cautious eyes.
"So, I can pick any gun, right?" I ask, glancing at the table once more.
"Yeah, any you want." Ian states cheerfully.
"Then, I want that one." I tell him, gesturing to a gun that I notice at his hip. Ian glances down and then back at me with complete confusion.
"What?" He asks nervously.
"I pick the gun that you have on you, right now. I mean, you forced all your men to give up their arms, and being the great leader you are, you must've taken bullets out of your gun as well. With this in mind, I'm sure it won't bother you if I shoot first. Now, hand it to me." I demand with my lips curling into a smirk.
"Shane..." Ian mumbles nervously while he slowly grabs his gun from his belt.
"Yes? Is there a problem?" I question while I casually rest my hand right above the gun I have.
"Well... Uh... Nope." Ian states as he outstretched his arm with the gun in it. I grab it by the barrel and Ian points it at me, tempting to pull the trigger.
"Bye-bye." He giggles.
Bang!
"Die, you mother fucker!" Wade shouts as he shoots his gun and hits Ian in the gut. Ian's hand goes limp and I take the gun from his grasp, causing him to fall to the ground. He grabs at his wound nervously while yelping in pain.
"Shane, that's not fair!" Ian screams at me angrily.
"It wasn't fair that you didn't make yourself equal to all your men. Or that you tried to shoot me first, and I didn't actually do anything." I state, twirling the gun around my fingertips lazily. I turn my head to Wade and nod appreciatively.
"Thank you, Wade, for saving my life." I tell him gratefully.
"It was nothing, I told you I'd be watching. Just think of it as a favor for a friend." Wade replies while he puts his gun away at his side.
"Alright, thank you. Now... Back to business." I turn to Ian who squirms around on the ground. "I told you, I warned you, time and time again. If you had simply given my property back to me, then you wouldn't have had this fate. I might have even spared you from my wrath, but it's too late now." I tell him, crossing my arms with the gun dangling on my fingers lazily.
"Shane, you can't just let me die! How can you be a good guy with this attitude? Aren't you supposed to be the hero?" Ian screeches at me while he holds his stomach tightly. I chuckle and shake my head.
"Oh, I'm no hero..." I pause and lean down to properly face Ian.
"I'm simply a businessman. That's what I've always been, and that's what I'll always be." I state. I see the light in Ian's eyes dissipate until it completely vanishes.
"Oh, what did you say to me? Oh yes, bye-bye." I whisper with a smirk. And those were the last words Ian Myers ever heard.
