I flutter my eyes open and instantly begin struggling again like I did when I was last awake. I shake around, but find my arms and legs strapped down and immobile. I shake around and try to break free, dashing my eyes all around the bright, while tiled room. A cold hand grabs my chin harshly and places a face in front of mine. The man has short, deity blonde hair that resembles Shane's. His face is pale, and smooth around the edges. His icy blue eyes stare down at me while a smirk crosses his pale pink lips.
"You're Violet, right?" He asks me smoothly. I am about to speak when he covers my lips with the top of his hand.
"Just nod." He demands in a whisper. I nod slowly to answer his question from before and his smirk widens.
"Good job, I'll pay you soon." The man says, his eyes going away for a moment before coming back and locking on me.
"Anyways, Violet Lancaster, I have a few questions for you. Please just answer by shaking or nodding you head to make this easier on us both. Understand?" He questions me. I answer with a slow nod and stare into his eyes intently.
"Alright... First question, do you know why is Shane staying in District 6?" He asks me. I don't answer at first and then nod.
"Interesting... Did he tell you?" Which I answer by shaking my head. He hadn't told me specifically, I'd just guess it was just convenient, but I don't actually know if I'm correct on that.
"Ah... Did Allan King tell you?" He questions me curiously. I shake my head again and take in a deep, annoyed breath.
"Would you like to tell me who did?" He asks me. I look into his eyes for a long while until I nod in response.
"Okay. I'm going to let you speak, but if you scream, or say anything other than answer me, we're going to have some problems." He whispers, his hot breath touching my cheeks in a strange way that makes me twitch nervously. I nod to show my understanding and the man slowly peals his hand off my face.
"Alright, dear, who told you?" He questions me smoothly as if all of it was effortless for him.
"If I answer, can I ask you something?" I question softly. The man looks at me with a puzzled expression and then nods slowly.
"Fine. But answer me first." He demands. I nod slowly and think hard on what lie I'm going to tell this guy, and then it comes to me.
"I didn't find out why we were there, I told Shane to take us there." I tell him confidently.
"Oh, really? And why did you want to go there?" The man asks me, a smirk now formed on his face.
"Because I've been in our district for so long, and I got bored. I wanted to see new places and going to the nearest district was a perfect way to get away from home for a while." I explain casually. The man shakes his head while smiling to himself.
"Alright. What is your question for me then?" He asks me as he rests his hand on the bed I lay on, next to my head. I can feel it toying with a strand on my hair that happens to be where his fingers lie. I look up at him in silence for a few moments and think carefully before I ask.
"Who are you?" I question him finally with a curious look on my face. He chuckles softly and leans over me closer than before.
"My name? You want my name?" He asks me in a hushed voice, his breath sticking to my cheeks.
"That tells me who you are, right?" I whisper back slowly.
"It certainly tells you something about me, but it doesn't tell you everything." He responds while his eyes scan over my face.
"Then tell me everything. Answer my question, in whatever way you want." I whisper. His watery eyes are bright and seem to have some darkness at the bottom of his ocean. I want to understand who he is, why he took me, and why he seems so interested in me, I want to know why he looks at me like that too. He chuckles very softly again and runs his fingers through my hair carefully.
"Alright... I'll start with a name, and work from there." He whispers softly. I nod in response, but not too much to avoid making any contact with him.
"My name is Joshua McNeal. Most of my friends, or just acquaintances, call me Josh. I am the one who has taken your compound from your dearest Shane. You could say, I'm the bad guy of this story, but that's not how I see it. Do you know who I see as the bad guy?" He asks me in a tone that I could almost call sweet.
"No." I answer simply while examining his face. He seems so calm and collected, so fragile, yet strong at the same time.
"Your husband, Shane Lancaster is my bad guy. He's the enemy in my story. He took what was rightfully mine, my compound, my power, my home, and now my best friend. It's been so long since I saw you last, Violet. And it couldn't trouble me more that you don't remember. Even when I first met you at the age if 7, I loved you, and I followed you to the asylum and across the ocean. I was always right behind you, to catch you whenever you fell. I never left, even though your mother made you believe I did. That's why I left the notes, and tried to lead you in the right direction." He whispers as his lips caress my cheek smoothly. "I wanted to help you, I always have." Josh tells me. My eyes widen at him as all the memories come flooding back to me.
"Josh... McNeal..." I mumble his name in complete shock.
"Yes, Violet. Its me..." He tells me happily with tears in those icy eyes of his.
