~*Normal Time*~
I take in a breath and lower my crossbow so only one of my hands holds it casually at my side. I turn my attention to Jack and his eyes are wide and his jaw has dropped. Fin stabs a knife into the lock he pulls it apart. He then grabs the door and opens it, letting Jack out. He walks out, giving Fin a nod of appreciation before he walks towards me, staring at me intently.
"I think a lot happened since I left..." Jack says, his eyes wandering over my body. I nod and hold back tears, I forgot that Jack doesn't know what happened to Marisa. He doesn't know how I've been the last week because of her death. I swallow hard and try to put on a smile, but tears just come out of my eyes.
"Oh, Violet, come here." Jack tells me soothingly as his arms pull me into an embrace. I tangle my fingers on his back, pulling him closer to me and weep into his chest.
"Violet Lancaster, stay right there and don't move one inch." I hear a booming voice shout at me. I sniffle and lightly move my head so I can see behind Jack. Carter stands on top of the cage with his hand on a latch at the top. I'm guessing it opens the other cage and let's the cages become one. I look at him and stop my ridiculous crying, I look weak like this, but I am weak with Jack. That's just how I've been, letting myself become weak only in front of few people. Now I'm not going to be weak, not when Carter is here to laugh at me.
"What do you want?" I question him in a shaky voice.
"You just took the leader for this compound. I think we should take someone important from you too, that's fair right?" Carter says with his classic smirk on his face. "The real question is, who do I take?" He says, his eyes digging their way into my soul.
"Violet. You and the team get our of here. I'll deal with this." Jack whispers, loosening his grip on me, but I don't budge.
"I'm not leaving without you." I whisper back sternly.
"You're not going to be leaving at all if you stay." Jack says, slowly trying to get me off him.
"I'm not leaving without you. I came to get you back and now that I have I'm not letting go." I tell him in a hushed voice. Jack sighs heavily and shakes his head. I feel his hand slide to my shoulder where he grabs an arrow and then he takes the crossbow from me. He suddenly spins around and points the weapon at Carter threateningly.
"Do what I said, get out of here. I can deal with him." Jack shouts this time and I can see his eyes focused on Carter. Jack has never been good with my crossbow, most of the time he misses. I'm just glad that Carter doesn't know this, but there's something else he doesn't know. I pull my knife out of my breastplate and throw it at Carter without any aiming or thinking. It hits him in the knee and he loses his balance. When he falls a gun in his pocket flies out of his reach and I grab my own gun. I can aim with this one, and that's what I do. Even though Carter is moving, he's not moving enough for it to matter to my aiming too much. I just have one target and I shoot for it. The bullet pierces the skin on his neck and blood pours out. He looks like he's trying to say something, but it doesn't come out, not anymore. His arm falls through one of the holes in the cage and the Eaters claw at it. More blood covers the cage as they slowly eat away at him. None of the bystanders seem to have weapons, they just seem scared and confused. Jack slowly turns around to face me and he also has a face of shock.
"That was badass, I didn't know you had that in you." Jack confesses with his bright smile coming back.
"I wasn't going to just leave, that's not who I am. I came here to get you anyway, and if we didn't take you back it would've been a waste of all our resources, and Shane would be very unhappy if that happened." I say with a playful smirk. Jack chuckles lightly and shakes his head, his eyes then turn to rest on the crossbow. He gives it a confused look and then gives it to me instead.
"They took my old one, but I found this one instead." I explain. Even though this crossbow isn't mine, I must admit, it is a nice one. It has great accuracy and is much cleaner and fancier than my old one.
"So you found your old one?" Jack questions, carefully eyeing me.
"Yeah, I just used the spare key and found it." I explain, confused at why he asked.
"Okay, but did you grab anything else while you were there?" Jack asks in a suspicious tone.
"No... I mean, I took my arrows and a few knives, but I don't get what you're saying." I state in confusion.
"Never mind then. Let's just head back, I don't want to worry anyone else. And I think we killed the people who shot you." Jack says, sliding my crossbow back over my shoulder. He then wraps his arm around my waist and starts walking. I follow his lead and the members of Team 4 don't hesitate to follow me. We now begin our journey back home, but this time, with Jack by my side
