RUN.

I break through the walls and fall onto the hard ground, getting dirt all over my body. I push myself to my feet and without any thinking, begin running as fast as my feet can carry me. I don't even know what direction I'm running in, as long as it is away from here. I hear footsteps chasing me too, but I don't stop, I can't stop now, I've gone too far. I keep running through all the trees, pushing branches out of my way, causing the cuts on my hands to sting and a hiss to escape my mouth. My legs ache from how quickly they stared moving from what could have been days of inactivity. And that is exactly why I can not possibly go back. That is when I make one of the gravest mistakes of this whole escape. A root from a nearby tree sticks out of the ground and happens to be right in front of my foot when I take another step.
"No..." I hiss as I stumble and fall to the ground, my bulky combat boot stuck in the root.
"No, no, no..." I mumble nervously as I try to pull my leg loose, but it doesn't budge one bit.
"Please no..." I whine now as I finally pull my combat boot free and push myself back onto my feet. However, I lost a lot of space between me and whoever chases me, wishing to capture me again. My legs are even weaker, and my ankle stings now with each step, causing me to whimper slightly. I break another branch and hiss in pain as it slides right over one of the cuts on my hand. I fall to the ground in pain, and realize that it is no forest anymore. I have never been so happy to see the black pavement of the road before. I recognize this road too, it has a bent sign with black spray paint standing next to it. Just like the road that leads back to District 6, that Josh and I passed when we were traveling there. I push myself back onto my feet and begin running again, now on the road. I dash past the sign, now at a full sprint because nothing is blocking my way anymore. No tree branches to pull out of my way and tangle out of my hair, to uneven ground to catch me off guard, and no tree roots to snag my foot and pull me down. Now it is just a clean road that will lead me exactly where I need to be. If I remember correctly, that sign was close to the edge of the compound itself, Shane told me that most of the forest and land around here belongs to 6, but Allan chooses to leave it alone since he has enough room in the compound. That is one reason why the Main District is so much bigger, because Shane used as much land around him as he could and packed it inside the walls. He said that he even expanded the walls three separate times to get more space. Only the best for the Main District, of course, especially when its with Shane handling it. The road turns just as I remember it did and around he corner stands the large front wall of District 6. I sigh in relief and run quickly into the view of whoever is on guard.
"Stop, miss." A guard yells at me from above, all guns pointing at me. I ride my hands above my head and pant heavily ad I stop running.
"Please let me in." I call up to them.
"Who are you?" Another guard questions me.
"I am Violet Lancaster. Wife of Shane Lancaster, the owner of the Main District and all others. Please let me in, or at least get me Shane." I beg them, lightly resting my hands atop my head. They are tired after all, from all my running and now being held up in this form of surrender.
"Mr. Lancaster left three days ago. He went back to the Main District with all his guests." One guard tells me. I nod slowly, of course he would. The only reason he was staying in 6 was because he wanted to make sure that his compound could be stable.
"Can I have a com to contact him? Or may I speak to Allan King?" I ask, still panting and trying to regain my breath. I then hear footsteps running behind me. Oh, no. Not again. Has my capture caught up to me?
"Please let me in, there are people chasing me out here and I need safety." I tell them, my eye suddenly welling up with tears just at the thought of going back there, and being taken again.
"Alright. Open the doors!" I hear shouted across the wall. I lower my arms and begin walking closer to the wall. The footsteps quickly approach, but I have military on my side now. The door to the compound slowly opens and soldiers stand on either side of it. A hand suddenly pounds itself on my arm and pulls me back. A small dagger goes to my neck and I pull my head back slightly. The guns position themselves on the wall to help me.
"Release Mrs. Lancaster." One soldier demands sternly.
"If you shoot, she dies." A deep voice says from behind me. I close my eyes and shake my head lightly, feel in the blade rub against my skin in just an irritating way, but not harmful.
"Release her or there will be backup forces attacking and getting her." The same soldier demands.
"No need for backup." I hear another voice behind me and a gunshot. Blood spits all over me face and neck and the knife, as well as the hand holding it, go limp and slowly fall off me. I shriek and cover my ears with the backs of my hands as tears begin flooding my eyes. Soldiers swarm me and surround me completely, as if they put me in a protective bubble. I shake my head lightly and don't move. The man who tried to kill me obviously was killed, I glance behind me to see a large bullet home through his skull and pieces of his brain slathered all over the cement, my shoes and my arms.
"Thank you for your help, sir. Please identify yourself." A soldier asks. I turn around slightly just to see whoever had saved me. There is a man standing there with dark brown hair, chocolatey eyes and a light stubble on his chin.
"I'm Mark, Mark Fiscbach. Violet knows me, I came from the Main District to look for her. I just had a bad feeling that she was hurt, and I'm glad I came in time." His voice is like butter. So smooth and calming, and oddly familiar.
"You know this man?" A soldier asks me. I look up at this man, Mark, and back at the soldier and lightly shake my head.
"I think he works for Shane... Probably a military unit. Thank you for saving me, Mr. Mark." I tell him with a smile. Mark laughs and shakes his head.
"I didn't think you'd still be up for joking around after what you've been through. You look pretty roughed up after all." Mark chuckles softly as he looks over me. I wrinkle my eyebrows at him and cock my head to the side.
"What do you mean? I'm not joking. I really do mean it, thank you. Or are you saying that you're not in the military unit?" I ask him curiously. Mark shakes his head and gives me a look of pure confusion.
"Are you serious?" Mark asks me, slight amounts of almost what I'd call heartbreak in his voice.
"Yeah... I'm sorry, I don't know all of my husband's employees." I admit, slightly sorry for this man.
"Violet... Do you not remember me? I've protected you from the beginning." Mark states. This time it is my turn to give the confused look.
"What do you mean? I've never met you before." I tell him, completely confused.
