I watch as Ian fades away from this world and let's out his last breath. All in that time, I feel nothing bad towards him. I feel no guilt, or sorrow, or even any sadness. Why should I? Ian was my enemy, and I've just defeated him. I stand and look to the wall. All of Ian's so-called friends and minions stand with plain shock on their faces.
"I am now, once again, the owner of this compound. So, I give you a choice. Either make a line at my office for me to register you as a citizen, or get out of my compound. And, if you stay, you must come to my office to register. I will not tolerate noncitizen people in this compound anymore." I state to all the people who stand on the wall. They take turns nodding and glancing down to the outside of the walls. Some then decide to go down the ladder to stay, while others simply stand, still making their decision.Eventually, I see people leave, and some stay. There is about a third of the people here who used to be. I suppose I'll have to send a request for citizens to the other compounds.
"Main District! Teams 3 and 4 reporting from District 6. Owner, Shane Lancaster, please reveal yourself if able." I hear a male voice shout to me from beyond the wall. I grab the lever and open it with ease. I then position myself in from of the door and put my hands above my head.
"I am Shane Lancaster. I have reclaimed my compound, but I wish to request a search of my compound." I call to the troops who I now see through the open doorway.
"A search for what, sir?" One man in the front questions me. He looks like a team leader as he has 4 guns on him, just that I can see. He has one on either side of his waist and one on each of his thighs.
"Any unknown persons. I am going to be registering everyone in this compound, but I don't have the manpower for that at this moment in time. I simply wish for your help to search and find any citizens who may have been captured in the time I was not in control." I explain, and while I do, I lower my arms back to my sides.
"Sir, we can not stay here longer than 3 hours on direct orders from Mr. King." The soldier in the front declares sternly. I cross my arms over my chest and nod slowly, of course he would do that. The owner of District 6, Allan King, has always been a direct and controlling man, much like myself. I believe that it is our similarities that make us despise one another so much. He is a good man, and a fantastic leader, we simply do not agree on many matters.
"Of course... Might you take me and a few others to see him?" I question politely. My compound is not the safest at the moment, and it would be a good plan to send everyone to a safe place while I clean up here. The soldier feeds a confused expression and furrows his eyebrows.
"How many others?" He finally questions me.
"No more than 5... You see, I wish to bring my wife and her friends to a safe compound, and at the moment, that is not here." I explain. The soldier grabs a com that sits on a Velcro on his shoulder.
"Hello, this is Commander Williams. We have made it to Main District and have Shane Lancaster in view. He requests passage to District 6 with 5 passengers. Requesting directions. Over." The soldier finishes but keeps the com in his hand.
"Shane is there? Can I speak to him?" A male voice from the other end questions from the soldier's com.
"Yes, sir." He replies before taking steps to hand me his com. I press down the button and take in a breath.
"Hi Allan." I speak plainly into the com and release the button once I'm done.
"Shane, what are you doing? First, you force me to send my best men to your compound. Now, you wish for me to bring them all back with you? And who are the people you're bringing with you?" Allan speaks angrily from the other side, and I can understand his frustrations.
"I know, and you have my apologies for the short notice. I want to take my wife and my only living friends out of my compound right now... It's not safe here... I hope that if I go to 6, then maybe I can organize something with the other districts to clean up my compound. Allan, I need a place for my wife and myself right now, and we can't stay here." I finish with a heavy inhale of oxygen to my lungs.
"I understand your current problem, Shane, and I feel for you, truly, I do. However, I am having problems of my own at my compound. As you might know, I have riots in my streets, citizens throwing bricks in my windows, and speak of how evil I am. I need to stop a rebellion from occurring Mr. Lancaster, I am not able to house you, let alone everyone you plan to bring with you. I'm sorry, Shane, but I can not allow you to come here, not now at least." Allan finishes while releasing a heavy sigh. I shake my head and press down the button.
"Where am I to go, Allan? I've had people, citizens, friends, all killed from this. My offices, destroyed and everyone who worked there, killed. I have the only people I know locked in a house that previously they were tortured inside of. There is blood and bodies of my citizens on the streets, that of men, women and children. I do know of your current hardships, Mr. King, but now I come to you, simply asking for help. I need all the friends I can get right now, and not many will want to help me after this. If I fall out of power, do you really want to see what will happen to your situation when men full of greed and act more like snakes than people? Do you want to see how that will turn out?" I take in a breath and a moment to collect my thoughts before I continue. "Allan, I know we do not agree on everything, but I think you are smart enough to realize that I pay back my debts, and I will help you if you help me now. I highly doubt that you will get the same offer from any other who may be placed in my position if I am to fall... I need help, Allan, and I swear, I will help you regain balance and order in your compound when I'm back on my feet." I state into the com, finally releasing my finger from pressing down the button. There is a moment of silence, where I'd guess Mr. King is deciding what he wants to do with me.
"I'll do it..." There is a response from the com all of a sudden. I sigh in relief and nod slowly.
"Thank you, Allan." I reply to him gratefully.
"I will do it, but on a few conditions." Allan tells me.
"Of course." I mumble.
"You and your friends will not stay for more than a month. I do not have much here, and I can not afford to feed extras for long. As well to that, I expect for you to not keep things from me, Shane. I know you have secrets, as do I, however, I will not tolerate you keeping important information from me while you are here. And I have one last one: If my people threaten rebellion again while you're here, can you please do or say something to calm them? It is frightening to even leave my home, from the shouting to the items thrown at me... Anyways, do you agree to my conditions, Shane?" Allan sighs and I nod to myself slowly.
"Yes, I agree." I tell him.
"Alright. Give the com back to my commander, Shane. I have to tell him my final decision." Allan requests from his side of the com.
"Of course. I look forward to seeing your compound again." I state before I lower my arms to my sides with the com in my left hand. I outstretch my arm and I return the com to it's owner.
"Mr. King, your orders?" He questions once he fully takes back his com.
"Escort Mr. Lancaster and his friends to District 6. They will be treated as our guests, so treat them well." Allan states from the other end.
"Of course, sir." The commander places his com back on his shoulder and approaches me formally. He puts out his hand for me to shake.
"Sir, I am Commander Tyler Williams. I will be escorting you and your companions to District 6. I will give you time to pack before we leave." I shake his hand and nod.
"Thank you, Commander. I won't take long, and I'll meet back here." I tell him with another nod. Tyler nods and back to me and we release from our handshake. I turn away from him and gesture to Bob and Wade to follow me to where I walk.
"Let's go get the others, we're getting out of this shit hole." I mumble while we walk swiftly.
