~*In The Beginning*~
~*3rd Peron POV*~As Shane rushed down the halls of his mansion that morning he sensed something strange. He hadn't heard Angie yelling or running around that morning like she normally did. Shane thought that she might have been sleeping in, but went to go check just in case. He gently turned the doorknob and quietly crept into her room, and there in her bed she was asleep. She had a long day yesterday, so this didn't surprise Shane as he smiled at his adopted daughter and closed her bedroom door so she could continue sleeping. Shane lazily tightened his tie a he walked down the steps of his mansion towards the front door. He smiled to himself as he opened his front door that someone had been banging on for the past few minutes. Shane had grown used to ignoring people, and this one was no different. As he swung open the front door and was greeted by his business partner Joshua McNeal.
"Oh, Joshua. I didn't expect to see you so soon. How is your search going?" Shane questions politely as he allows the other man inside.
"Not good, I can't find her anywhere. And even worse, there's been a bad virus going around lately. It's been making people go crazy and start to eat each other." Joshua explains, obviously shaken by the recent news that he had only seen hours ago on the local news. Shane wrinkles his eyebrows at the other male and tilts his head slightly to the side as he closes the front door.
"What do you mean? There must be a treatment if it is a virus." Shane states, the pure business side of him coming out in his voice.
"I haven't heard of anything, I just want to find my girl and live in this house with you guys. If it comes down to it, we can board up the doors and just stay inside. It's sure to pass eventually." Joshua responds assuredly.
"Shouldn't we keep the towns safe as well? If it does get that bad then we will have to protect our property." Shane suggests, crossing his arms in his usual stance.
"Yeah, but first we have to find my girl. Then we can focus on protecting everything." Joshua demands.
"I know that this woman must be important to you, but what we have, that is more important to protect right now. Perhaps building walls around every city will work, to keep out the infected and treat the infected inside our walls. It would work much better than just seeing what will happen, we need to control this, Joshua." Shane states sternly. Joshua crosses his arms the same as Shane had done and looks at him in annoyance.
"I can't just sit around behind closes walls. I have to go find her." Joshua argues.
"Hey... Dad? What's wrong?" Angie calls as she slowly makes her way down the steps of the mansion. She had woken up only moments ago and heard the angry conversation her fathers had been having downstairs.
"Angie, don't worry. Joshua and I were just having a conversation, but we've settled on it already." Shane explains to his daughter happily.
"Oh, okay. As long as you guys are okay then its fine." Angie replies as she gets to the level ground at the bottom of the stairs. Shane chuckles to himself as he slowly paces towards her.
"Everything is always fine, dear. I make sure of it." Shane tells her with a smile on his face that is only there for her. Shane doesn't smile often, but when he does, it is only her that one little girl.
"Because you're the most powerful and smart guy there is, right?" Angie questions with a smirk and small giggles.
"That's right. And I'll always be there to take care of my little girl." Shane chuckles again.
"Shane, I'm going to go back to the office. You take care Angie, and get some breakfast before anything else." Joshua tells her in a more soft tone than he had used with Shane.
"I can make some pancakes for you, if you want." Shane offers sweetly, his eyes smiling at the young girl.
"Blueberry pancakes?" Angie questions with a small giggle.
"Of course. I wouldn't give anything else to my little girl." Shane smiles again at his own words and begins heading towards the kitchen. While Shane and Angie laughed and ate pancakes in the mansion, Joshua went back to the office to continue his search for his beloved Violet Clark. However, what he didn't know was a that she was traveling with a large group of people that day, and wouldn't be found easily. She was on the highway with her four male companions that were all trying to get far away from the city.
"Have you found anything?" Joshua asks a worker in front of a laptop screen.
"Not yet, sir." The worker replies as he types in her name into the computer once again.
"Okay, tell me immediately once you fins something." Joshua demands as he runs a hand through his messy hair that he hadn't washed in a few of his sleepless days. More days pass with no information on his search, and Shane does nothing, since he doesn't want to act without Joshua's approval. However, Joshua hadn't been home in a while, so Shane had to go to him. Three days aver the outbreak Shane decided to take Angie with him to the office to see Joshua. Angie held onto her father's hand and his her face behind his large palm. She was always nervous when going outside, but they couldn't just stay home any longer. Shane avoided everyone on his way towards the office in fear that one of them might be infected with the notorious virus that had been going around. Shane wasn't going to risk the life of anyone in his family, and the easiest way to do that was to simply avoid everyone he came across. They arrived at the office, and no one hesitated to allow Shane inside.
"Okay, Angie, you wait right here, okay? Don't to anywhere until I come back. And I'll only be a few minutes, alright?" Shane tells his daughter as his finger slides over her cheek lovingly.
"Okay dad. Come back soon." Angie replied happily while she gives her father's hand a light kiss before letting go of it. Shane smiled at her action and then waved as he entered the offices. As much as he'd love to take her with him, a life of business was the one thing he never wanted for his daughter. He would never show her that side of him. Shane walked deep in the offices to find Joshua circling his computer while running his fingers through his hair.
"Joshua." Shane calls for him, causing many of the employees to raise their heads at Shane.
"What do you need?" Joshua questions as he goes around all the desks that were in between him and Shane.
"I need to talk to you, about the well being of our cities." Shane states sternly.
"Okay, talk." Joshua says while looking over Shane suspiciously.
"Not here. Let's go home real quick, Angie is waiting for me outside. It will be better if we just go back and talk this over at home." Shane suggests.
"I can't leave now, Shane. What if they get information while I'm gone?" Joshua questions.
"Then it will still be there when you get back. Just come home for a few minutes, it won't be long." Shane tells him, shocked at the other males answer.
"I can't leave here, Shane. Just talk to me here or wait for me to go home." Joshua demands. Shane sighs and shakes his head.
"Fine. Cone back soon or else I'll make a decision for you." Shane declares as he exits the offices and goes out into the lobby. He walks out the front door and glances around, expecting to see his daughter right where he left her, and is surprised when he sees nothing of the sort.
"Angie!" Shane shouts her name as he begins walking around to search for her.
"Angie!" He shouts again. That's when he hears her scream loudly from around a nearby building.
"Angie!" He shouts as he dashes towards the sound he had heard. He finds her being attacked by a man who looks almost dead. He bites into his daughter's flesh causing blood to spill from her arm all over the pavement.
"Angie..." Shane mumbles as he kicks the man off his daughter. He grabs the man's head and shoves it into the ground, causing him to suddenly lose all movement.
"Dad..." Angie cries as he grasps her left forearm where et he man had bitten her.
"Angie... Here, I got you." Shane whispers while he picks her up in his arms and looks down at the wound.
"I'll get you all fixed up, okay? You're going to be fine." Shane assures her while he dashes back to the street and towards the nearby doctor office.
