~*Shane's POV*~

I wake up, exhausted from yesterdays full work. I haven't had a full work day in quite a while, and I had a lot to do when I got back. Anyways, I woke up to the sound of my com sounding next to me. It's so upsetting that my job sometimes intrudes in my life, but I have to deal with it.
"Hello? This is Shane." I say, pressing down the button in the com.
"Hello sir, we have some awful news to tell you." A voice on the other side says, sounding extremely out of breath.
"Oh? Go on." I say, curiosity suddenly being instilled in me.
"Sir, one of the prisoners escaped this morning and has already knocked out multiple gaurds and taken their weapons. He is armed and dangerous sir." He explains. I take in a breath, I wonder who could have the power to do that.
"Who is the prisoner?" I ask, I need to be more specific before I give any orders.
"One of the new ones, Ian Myers. The one that Mrs. Violet Lancaster told us to lock up." He informs me. I cuss under my breath, she's not going to be happy when she gets back.
"Send military around the compound, and anyone who enters or leaves sees me." I demand sternly.
"Most of our military are on the search mission or surveying the borders of the wall." He responds. I roll my eyes and press down the button completely annoyed.
"Send the police and anyone else who can shoot a gun. That man needs to be caught, so get that done." I growl my words with more annoyance and anger.
"Of course sir." He responds in a shocked and stern tone, as most of them do. All of my military always obey me, without any hesitation or questions asked. They speak clearly and follow all orders I give them, and tell me everything I need to know. I'm just surprised they actually had a prisoner break out, but Violet warned me and has told me what he's capable of. So, I suppose it is possible that he would catch a flaw in the pattern and use it as a way to escape. We need to change that, but once Ian is back in custody we will be able to put maximum security on him, because he won't be escaping again.

Violet has only been gone two days, but she could be back at any second. I guess I could go and check the wall to see if anyone has returned. I did order that all entrances and exits must be approved by me anyways. Doing this will be much easier for us all, and I know how to work a gun and I'm not afraid to shoot someone, or something as the case may be. I still take the time to put on my suit and part my hair as I do every day. Just because I'm going to the wall doesn't mean that my reputation isn't there. I tie my black shoes and head outside, straitening my tie on the way. On the doorknob I notice a small note, everyone seems to be writing them lately. I gently take it off, careful not to tear any corners, and it read:
'Hey Shane, I'm heading to see some of my friends. I'll be back later.
-Mark'
I nod and fold the note, placing it in my pocket for safe keeping. Mark has seemed very on edge and distracted since the wedding. I will admit, I have been too. We've been through a lot, but I'm trying to make it better for us all. And I do think that it will help for Mark to see his friends again, I think it helped Violet too. With that being said, I know that she needed Jack and I think it was a bit irresponsible about the whole situation. I know that she isn't his responsibility, but he just left without a trace. I know that Violet needed Jack, and I have nothing wrong with that, they're lovers after all. The thing that I have a problem with is that Jack had just left her in her moment of pain. That bothers me, but I can't focus on that too much now, I'm heading to the wall and I need to be focused for that. It is the most dangerous area of my compound, and you should always be on guard when around it. I walk into the main barracks of the military, it's completely empty. I keep forgetting that all my teams are out, I should've kept at least one here. But there's nothing I can do about it now, and other soldiers here can do a good job with it. I make my way to the main ladder to the wall and am surprised to not see a guard there. Something's wrong here, and I don't like it at all. I find a small lever on the wall, it opens the door and it is still closed. Good, at least they didn't leave it to let the zombies inside. I have no choice at this moment, I have to go to the top and look for someone to help me. I am the owner of this compound after all. I climb the ladder, I haven't gone this in quite a while. It isn't often that I come to the wall, let alone for my own work purposes. I finally reach the top and search the area, still no one. Alright, whoever was on shift is fired when I find them. I grab my com and press down the button.
"Hello, this is Shane Lancaster. I am currently at the wall, and there is no one on shift. Please send someone to my location, and tell me who was supposed to be here." I demand. I called my office, I'm sure one of my employees will answer any second, but they don't. There is still a static on the other end, meaning they didn't accept my call. They always answer me, I'm their boss, I own the building they are in. This seems to be one strange thing after the other. I change the channel on my com to the military supervisor, he probably has the information I need.
"Hello, this is Shane Lancaster. I am currently at the wall, and no one is here. Please send someone to my location and tell me who is supposed to be on shift." I demand. There is still that annoying static, he didn't answer me either. What is everyone doing? Do they all really believe that they can ignore me like this? I own this compound, where they live with their families. They can't ignore me like this, I won't tolerate it. I change the channel again, and repeat my sentence. Still no answer. What in the world is happening? I eventually change to every channel and none of them have answered me. Even the channel at Bob and Wade's house didn't answer. This is ridiculous, I don't know why everyone is doing this. I suddenly hear a gun being cocked and I spin around, only to see Kyle, Ian's brother, standing there with a gun pointed at me. That's not what I expected, I thought he gave up on his brother by now, I guess not.
"Hello Kyle. What are you doing? Whatever your brother has told you, or promised you, shooting me won't help anything. If you kill me, it will be the worst move of your life." I state. I drop my com, and it falls down the whole way down the wall, it's probably broken now. I slowly put my hands up and stare Kyle in the eyes, he won't shoot me.
"You're wrong! I have to do this to save my brother from you!" Kyle says in a shaky voice, and his hands that hold the gun shake extremely. Even if he did shoot, I'm not sure where it would land. By now the gun might not even hit me by his extensive shaking.
"How would that save your brother? He's a criminal and has done awful things to people. You met my wife, Violet, right? She told you what he did, he kidnapped her, and all her friends. He tortured them and almost starved a few of them. Putting him away from humanity is the safest thing for him in all honesty." I explain, if I can just get him to believe me, just a little, he might drop the gun.
"Now, Kyle, you're not a criminal. You're not a murderer, so don't become one like this. All you have to do is put down the gun and tell me where to find your brother. I'll forgive all your crimes and I will not kill your brother. You have my word on that, alright?" I question. I think my offer is one of the best he'll get. Most other leaders would have them both put to death, but I've never believed in that. After all, the someone who is mercyful, rather than someone who kills all their subjects.
"I... I- I can't. Ian said that you would try to trick me. Th-that's all y-you're doing. Y-you're tricking me! You're t-trying to lock him up again!" Kyle shouts, his hands are shaking even more than before.
"I have to lock him up, he is a criminal, Kyle. But, back to the big picture, how would killing me help you at all? My wife, Violet, would just own the compound, neither of you would. And I don't think she would have much mercy for the men who killed her husband. Just put down the gun now, and all is forgiven. Please, this is a big mistake, Kyle, I'm not lying or trying to trick you. You're brother lied to you and has manipulated you to believe that I'm someone I'm not." I explain, in a calm and stern tone, but that's just how I talk. He seems to be thinking over my offer and takes in a very shaky breath. His eyes avoid me, and he nods, slowly placing the gun on the ground, he even kicks it off the edge. He's smart. I return my arms back to my sides and smile with a nod.
"Good move. Now, where is your brother? We still need to find him." I state, slowly taking steps towards the frightened young man before me.
"He found you first. You shouldn't have told all the come where you were." Kyle says, his breath hitching and his eyes still avoiding me.
"What do you mean? Where is he?" I say, more demanding this time. I'm done doing the nice guy act, I need answers.
"He's right there." Kyle says, pointing a finger to an area behind me. I take in a breath and turn around to see Ian standing with anither gun pointed at me. He has some men behind him, I don't recognize many of them, they are all citizens of the compound though.
"Hi Mr. Lancaster, or can I just call you Shane? In this situation I think that's more appropriate, right?" Ian laughs at his own comment. They got me, they had Kyle as a distraction the whole time. I should've known, Ian would never send his brother to get rid of me. But even so, I'm not going to act beaten, I just have to play along to his game.
"That probably is true, I don't need a formal name with you." I state with a nod. Ian laughs spins the bullet chamber on his gun. It seems to be a revolver of some kind.
"Okay, Shane. This gun has six places for bullets, but I only had three bullets. Now, we're going to play a game. The rules of the game are simple, no cheating. You, are going to take this gun, and either point it at Kyle, or at this guy... Bring him up!" Ian shouts to the men behind him. They all pull a mam through their crowd and I recognize him as Mark.
