Shane and I stand in the outside of the meeting building in District 10. We have our arms locked together still, which is just a natural thing we do at this point. It seems like we grow so distant when we are alone or only with our friends. But to the public, we seem so close, almost inseparable. I will admit that Shane is an amazing man, and I wouldn't want to truly lose him in any way, but I don't love him. Not like the way I loved Jack. I look around the area we are in lazily, the only reason we stayed here longer is for Rebecca. She wanted to explore and meet everybody as the owner of a district, instead of a little girl. Rebecca is a strong woman I have to say, she has been through a lot and still has kept a level head about everything. That isn't how I reached to loss, I couldn't keep going like her and I'm a bit envious of that trait. Her bright blonde hair sways in her ponytail as he walks and speaks to everyone. The lipstick on her lips sparkles slightly against the sunlight that hits it. Her dark heals make just a slight click against the pavement when she walks. Rebecca looks so beautiful, yet so elegant with every movement. The man who commanded that Shane was innocent and gets to keep the compound walks towards us. His hair is a dirty blonde color, and I can't help but stare at his intently blue eyes.
"Mr. And Mrs. Lancaster, I wanted to speak to you before you left." He announces, his voice smooth and slightly calming. He sounds like one of those men who does radio work because of how smooth every word comes out.
"Of course. Violet, this is Mr. Zachary Zen, the owner of District 11, the district that mainly deals with order and law." Shane explains with a soft smile and nod.
"It is a pleasure to meet you." I comment while outstretching my hand towards Zachary. He takes it and shakes it firmly, as if I was one of his equals.
"Oh, the pleasure is all mine, Mrs. Lancaster. You truly have a wonderful man as a husband and your claims were very true about him. Everyone except that idiot, Mr. King, knew the outcome. Shane has ran things well for all of us, and I'm sure he will continue to." Zachary states as he releases my hand and I out mine back at my side.
"I am too." I smile and look up at Shane who gives me a small smile that he tries just slightly to hide.
"You both are too kind." He comments while changing his expression do he has a grin placed on his face. "But, I don't want to be too flattered, what is it you wanted to speak about?" Shane questions Zachary while just slightly letting his grin fade back into his regular business expression.
"Certainly. I wanted to invite you to District 11 for a time. Since Rebecca is still trying to handle her father's funeral and run an entire district, it may be more stressful to have you there. I am not insulting her of course, but it would be pleasure to have you in 11." Zachary offers while putting on a small, kind smile.
"Unfortunately, I have already agreed to helping Rebecca arrange her father's funeral since, like you said, she has a lot in front of her. Meaning, I am unable to leave District 16 until I have finished my business there." Shane replies. I look back at Shane and softly rub my fingers along his arm that I hold.
"Of course. It was only an offer." Zachary explains as he gives a swift nod and starts walking away. Shane nods back and places a random kiss on my forehead. I furrow my eyebrows just slightly and look up at him.
"What was that for?" I ask him with a soft chuckle escaping my mouth.
"It had to be for something?" He chuckles back. "It was for you then." He smiles and turns his eyes to look around the compound. I giggle softly and look around with him, almost in sync. Rebecca comes walking towards us, her glossy eyes smiling at us brightly.
"We can go now." She states with a nod. Shane chuckles softly and nods while looking at her.
"Alright, Mark is waiting in the limo for us." Shane explains while he slowly begins walking towards the exit of the compound.
"Yeah, I know." She replies while walking with us with her elegant grace. We walk outside the compound, the guards automatically allowing us to go to the outside world. I see Rebecca's limo waiting for us outside, her custom license plate on the back still reading "sassy" making me smile softly. Shane suddenly stops in his tracks, softly pulling me back towards him.
"What?" I question him of his sudden actions, looking at him, but it doesn't take long. I hear the cocking of a gun towards Shane's side and see Josh holding it.
"What are you doing?" I snap at him angrily while slightly pulling Shane back away from the phyco who has somehow gotten a gun.
"I'm getting that compound, this was just my nice way. But, that didn't work very well, so this will have to do." Josh states while pointing the gun at Shane's head. I push Shane away and release my arm from his.
"Don't you dare." I growl at him, moving the gun to be pointed at me. "Pull the trigger now and then you get him." I state while feeling the cold metal on the gun touch my hot forehead.
"Get out of the way, Violet. This isn't your problem." Josh demands while trying to pull the gun away. I keep my grip of it and shake my head against the tip of it.
"No, it is my problem. It is my husband and you are not going to do anything to him without doing something to me." I'm shouting now while staring at Josh intently, right in the eyes. Josh grabs my wrist and pulls me up from it. I squeal in pain from his sudden grip and try to kick him at the knees, but I miss.
"Oh, I'll do something to you... Because you're going to be my new wife." He chuckles and pulls me closer to him. I spit in his eye and punch him in the jaw.
"I'd rather marry the devil than you." I growl as his grip on my wrist fails and I am back on the ground where I try to pull the gun from his hand. His reaction to this is to slam the gun into my forehead where I fall to the ground, the world fading quickly ad I pass out.
