7 MONTHS LATER.
'Every cell in the human body regenerates, on average, ever seven years. Like snakes, in our own way, we shed our skin. Biologically we're new people. We may look the same, we probably do. The change isn't visible, at least not in most of us. But we're all changed. Completely. Forever.'
I sat on a cold chair, as the metal underneath me, seeped through my pants like water. Crossing my arms in front of my chest, I look over to my right to see Lexie, Alex, and Meredith beside me. They had the same numbing feeling in their face, a frozen stare that would haunt you forever.
Since the shooting, the Hospital thought it was best for the victims of the event to attend a 'Survivors Unite Group'. We would sit in a circle, and talk all about our feelings, and the things we went through. Then we would cry on the person's shoulder, as if that would make us feeling any better.
We lost 10 Doctors and Nurses. Including Gary Clark, who shot him in the head just down the hall from where we were. Janitors are still trying to clean up the blood stains in the halls and elevators, while our patients are trying to coupe with their PTSD.
The Hospital was put under extreme protection, forcing everyone who comes through the Hospital doors, into a full body scanner.
"Dr. Shepherd?" I heard someone mumble.
Still lost in my thoughts, I stared at the floor until Lexie nudged my shoulder.
"What?" I whisper.
"Can you tell us about your experience?" The psychologist asked.
"Um, I performed surgery on my brother?"
Taking off her glasses, she rests both of her arms on her knees.
"Elena, your brother was shot in front of you. Gary Clark, pointed a gun to your friends and yourself, you must have some kind of feeling towards that?"
"I don't have any feeling towards it. Gary Clark was a lonely man, who lost everything. He came into this Hospital for a purpose, and he completed it. To which he unfortunately ended his life. I've been through this before, okay? My parents divorced, my father was killed, and my brother was shot..but he lived."
Staring at me with confusion closes her eyes.
"Okay, we will continue this tomorrow." She said, cutting the session short.
Being the first few to leave the room in a hurry, I catch up to Meredith who was heading to Derek's room.
"Elena," Jackson said as I came out of the elevator.
"I'll meet you there?" I whisper to Meredith, as she went by herself.
"Hey, Jackson.."
"How did the Session go?" He asked.
"Just as you said it would be?"
"That bad huh?"
"She made it seem like my side of the entire shooting was the worst part? She didn't once mention the fact Meredith lost her baby? Alex getting shot. Or even Cristina?"
"She probably did that because of Derek.."
Taking a step towards him, I wrap my arms around him as I place my head on his chest.
"Did I mention that Derek and I are performing a surgery together today?" I said.
"What? No, you didn't even bother to mention that?"
Pulling myself away, I keep my arms wrapped around him.
"The patient is flying from Arizona. He has 8 tumors, the size of dimes, in his brain."
