Throwing the covers over my bed, I stretch out over the bed when I feel Jackson's back against my hand. Still sleeping, I quietly roll out of bed and walk over to the dresser on the other side of the room.

"Mommy," Theo whispered coming inside the room while rubbing his eye.

"Hey, I'll be right down to make you breakfast, okay?"

"Okay, I'll be watching cartoons."

Grabbing an old t-shirt and shorts from the drawer, I change quickly before heading downstairs.

"Here you go."

Setting a bowl of lucky charms on the table, Theo eats with his head still attached to the TV screen.

"Everett, eat first please?" I ordered.

"Yes, Ma'am."

Hearing footsteps come down the stairs, Jackson walks out of the corner and into the kitchen.

"Hey, Bud."

"Hi..."

"You're going in early?" I asked as I saw that he was ready for work.

"Yeah, aren't you going to get ready too?"

"I asked Bailey to fill in my morning patients..." Bringing the coffee mug up to my lip, I took a sip before setting it back down.

"So, you're ignoring the whispering and the staring?"

"I'm going to be in the O.R room all day, at least there they won't be nagging me."

"I'm ready, mommy!" Theo yelled from the living room.

"I'll be right there."

Cup in hand, I cleaned up the counter before putting on my jacket and walking out the house with Theo.

"I'll be right back, Rebecca!" I said to our babysitter.

"Okay!"

"So, I'll see you at work?" Jackson asked.

"You'll know I'm there once you see the giant crowd of flowers and food baskets surrounding me."

"Don't be like that."

"...I love you." I whispered.

"I love you too."

Parking in the carpool lane, I turn off the car and watch as Theo gets out of the car.

Young kids walked hand in hand into the school with their parents. Wobbling inside with their giant abnormally sized backpacks and their lunch boxes in their hands.

"Bye, mommy!" Theo yelled as he jumped out of the car.

"Bye, sweetie. I'll pick you up later."

"Okay."

"Hello, Dr. Shepherd." His principle said to me through the window.

"Hello, Mariam."

Standing near the edge of the carpool, the short blonde hair blew with the wind. Wearing black long slacks and a white blouse, she walked closer to my car while I rolled down the window.

"How's the little one doing?"

"She's great. At home with the babysitter. How're the grandkids?"

"Young and naive."

"I know the feeling."

Glancing over at Theo as he played with other kids in his class through the window, Mariam looks back at me.
