Jackson's POV

Sitting down beside Maggie, I kept retrying the texts that I sent Elena when suddenly a rumbling vibrates through the walls and the electricity crackles.

Sitting up, I jump off the bed and start to make my way to the door.

"Okay, so, either this is a drill or it's a real fire. And if it's a real fire then it probably has something to do with the guy, so I vote drill." Maggie said as I started to check down the two hallways.

"Despite that large boom you just heard? Really?" I questioned, striding to the other hallway.

"All right, fine. It's the guy. The bad, escaped-rapist guy. Why? Why!?"

Pressing my badge up to the scanner, it beeps and the doors automatically open.

"Oh! The door's unlocked."

"Well, yeah. Fire would override a lockdown." Maggie said.

"I have to go find Elena, would you-"

"I'll go find Theo and Eliza...be careful, Jackson!" She yelled as I was already running down the hallway.

Running into a hallway full of patients, I dodge myself in between then as I checked the rooms down the hall.

"Elena!"

"Shepherd!"

Hearing the alarms blaring in the hall, the mumbles and the whispered that the patients were saying could hardly be heard from their caregivers.

"Elena!"

Reaching down the hall, I peeked inside a hall where a nurse was taking out a patient.

"Go, go, go! Elena!" I yelled.

Anxiously looking around the hallway, I moved on to the next room down the hall.

"Elena!"

But when I noticed the room was uncomfortably hot, I glanced up at the ceiling and notice flames bursting out from the vents.

Stepping back, I closed the door, still holding the door handle in my hands, before I ran down the hall and to the emergency stairs.

Elena's POV

"Help me!"

The smell of flesh had exhumed itself into my lungs and seeped through my skin. I could hear the voice of a little girl echoing in my head, coughing out my name from far away.

"Elena?"

Her voice became louder, while her coughing seemed to have made it worse from the smoke.

"Help!"

Opening my eyes, I saw flames burning right next to me. Metal pipes above me creaked from the heat in the room.

"Erin?" I called out.

"Elena?"

"Erin! Where are you?" I asked, crawling to and open space in the room.

"Don't do that! I thought you were dead!" Erin yelled.

Grabbing into a cabinet, I try to prop myself up by using my legs.

"I thought you were gone!" Erin yelled again.

Breathing in the smoke, I immediately cough my lungs out.

"Elena?"

"Yeah. Erin, uh, hang on!" I yelled.
