Jackson's POV

Walking out of the bedroom with a towel wrapped around my waist, I looked around for Elena on the first floor, until I noticed the balcony lights turned on outside.

Seeing that it was 7 in the morning, the sun was just rising outside. The wind was just starting to pick up as her hair was blowing away from her face

Leaning against the kitchen counter, I watch as Elena sat on a lounge chair while she gazed at the ring on her finger. Turning it around her finger, she smiled slightly before taking a sip of her coffee.

"Are you still shocked?" I asked her as I walked through the open double door.

"Oh, you're up?"

"Yeah, I figured you'd be getting ready by the time I got out."

Holding tightly onto my towel, I sat down beside her before resting my hand on my leg.

"It still hasn't settled in, has it."

"No...I mean, I figured you'd propose one day but 2 weeks after Eliza is born. You could've done it when I woke up from surgery."

"How stereotypical of you." I joked.

Handing me her coffee, I take a sip before looking over at the sunrise.

"Things are gonna change aren't they..." She whispered.

"You think they should?" I asked when I feel her arms wrapping around my waist and her chest is leaning on my back.

"Well, Catherine asked me if I would change Theo's last name to Avery instead of Sloan."

"She what?"

 "You didn't know?" She asked.

"She mentioned it, but I didn't think she would actually take it out of the hypothetical."

"It's okay. At least she didn't go behind my back and forge my signature to legally change it."

"Hold off on that," I whispered as I took another sip of the coffee.

"Come on, I have Julie's repairment surgery in a few hours." She said patting my back and walking back into the house.

Elena's POV

Walking through the E.R. floor, I made my way to the front desk to drop off some patient files when I see Amelia come through the doors.

"Hey, how's the new future Mrs. Avery..." She whispered jokingly.

"And the hypotheticals start now."

"What is that supposed to mean?"

Sighing, I turned around to face her before she looped her arm around mine and guided me to the elevator.

"Okay, what is going on. Yesterday you were crying and happy, now you're just plain old depressed. Is that wedding off?" She blurted out.

"God, Amelia, really?"

"What?"

Pressing the button up for her, we wait until the doors open.

"The wedding is not off, I'm just..."

Feeling her eyes look at my profile, she bites her bottom lip in silence.

"Mark..."

"Ryan..."  We both whispered out at the same time.

"We were engaged to live people at one point and now they're dead-"

"And now, we're getting married to living people again. Have you been spending time in the cadaver lab recently?" Amelia asked.
