Elena's POV
I always thought there was something romantic about fighting for someone. About winning them back, ultimate happiness. But as I stood here with stones in my chest, where hope used to lie, I have come to the realization that there is nothing lovely about having to convince someone that you're happy continuously.
"I'm sorry Matthew.," April whispered.
Grabbing the skirt of her wedding dress, she ran down the aisle, grabbing Jackson's hand and before you know it they're running out of the venue.
Everyone in the room was utterly shocked, April's sisters stood up before walking up to the stage.
"Elena, why didn't you stop him?" Meredith said.
"Elena?"
Staring at the open wooden doors, I felt my myself leave my body. Like I had just died, and I was floating up in the air staring down at everyone.
Everyone stared up at us, bridesmaids and it was like their eyes were swords, stabbing every inch of our bodies with hatred.
"Elena." Arizona nudged me.
"What?"
"Did you hear me?"
"No, What did you say?"
"Why didn't you do anything?" Meredith added.
"It wasn't my call?" I say handing them my bouquet and stepping down the stage.
"Elena..." Derek whispered as his fingers brushed against my arm.
Taking the emergency exit out towards the grassland and the lake, I gasped out a breath of air as the door completely shut.
The wind blew right through me, lifting up my dress and letting the cold breeze inhale me. It lifted me; it lifted me from the ground for a second.
Standing in a grassy area, I take off my shoes and walk deeper into the trees before finding a broken down log to sit on.
Moss grew from under the tree, softening the ground I stepped on.
The water rippled against the wind pushing the water to the edge and bringing it back. It was peaceful, watching the sunset reflected in the lake the fishes were starting to come outside.
Squirrels played at the edge of the water before climbing back to the trees, with food in hand.
"It's nice, isn't it?" Owen whispered as he stood behind me with his hands in his pockets.
"What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be finding April?" I say holding my knees together.
"I should, but I think her sisters and everyone else will do a better job at it then me..."
Taking the seat next to me, he looks at the lake before grabbing a small rock from the ground and throwing it into the water.
"You know...it's still so strange to me?" I whisper.
"What is?"
"Autumn is so beautiful, yet everything is dying..." I say closing my eyes and feeling the wind pass right through me again.
"You're right...but in time it heals. And it goes back to normal..."
"The leaves aren't the same...they're not like how they used to be," I said as I rub my hands on my shoulder.
"They're deformed, and soft...they're not as strong as they used to be."
"You're right, but what kind of leaves would they be if they weren't soft...they wouldn't be beautiful to look at." He whispered.
