Play song when Elena is listening to voicemail towards the end.
Jackson's POV
Standing in front of the nurse's station, I wait for Own to come out of the room.
"You were right today. I was taking a big risk." Owen said.
"You were lucky today. Really lucky."
"I understand."
"You know, Elena had a lot of faith in you, almost cost her, her job."
"I know, and I won't ask for anything like that again." He whispered.
Typing in some information on his tablet, I glanced back into the boy's room.
"Is Kepner back yet from the tunnel?" He added.
"I don't know. I don't know much about her lately. She's...different since she came back from her training with you. And I'm glad that she found something that makes her this happy, I guess. But it's weird. We're just not on the same page, ever, it seems." I sighed.
"It happens. More than you think. You go away, you came back. The world has shifted. Things that made sense once don't anymore. Elena has been through hell over this past year, it just takes a while for her to become distant."
"I wasn't talking-"
"Sure you weren't. But coming from someone who has known a little longer than you, she waits, Jackson. She waits for a very long time, hoping that something will happen. And when it does, she's either ready for it, or not. I can see the way you look her, I mean everyone can...including your wife."
"How do you know this?"
"She didn't talk about you in the year that we were deployed, she just kept going on and on about Elena. And how she's this and that, mostly just about your relationship to each other."
Watching him plug in the tablet on the monitor, we both leaned on the counter staring off into the distance.
"You heard that I'm resigning as chief?" He said, but I just gave him a confused look.
"Give her time. That's all you can do. Don't chase her down, or follow into the staircases. She'll come to you."
"And what if she doesn't. What if she just keeps the pain inside her, she told me that Amelia hasn't exploded yet, but she will. I know that Elena can't take that, not now. She was too close to Derek."
"Then, be there for her when the time is ready."
Elena's POV
Running down the hall to the E.R., I ran into Meredith, Maggie, and Amelia who were heading the same way.
"What's going on?" Maggie asked as we stepped out of the E.R and into the ambulance parking.
"What in the hell?"
"You said that if we were closer to the hospital, he might have a chance," April yelled.
"This is our chance."
"We need four units of O-Neg. Bring that bench over here." She orders as she climbs down from the truck.
"The went to cut off the door, and all I could think was he's gonna bleed out. We need more time. I was pissed, but then I thought, 'No,we need less distance to the O.R., so..."
"You brought the whole damn thing," Amelia whispered.
"How is he? I asked as I took off my coat.
