The Grey Reality

2 months later

In the last 2 months a lot has happened I decided to wait and see if my inflammation went down and it did. I am also on my feet again and am ready to go back to work in a few weeks but now I can play with my kids and not be in pain.
I was out in the yard with Christopher throwing a football as a car drove up, one I didn't recognise. I knew it couldn't be Mer cause she was inside with the girls. As it got closer i saw it was a man in the car. He drove right up behind my car and stopped. As he got out I slowly recognised him as Daniel Stevens my friend from high school. He was the fourth person in our trip before he moved to Edinburgh in Scotland and we met up again when I moved to Glasgow a while back.
"Hey Daniel long time no see" I said picking Chris up and walking towards him
"Hey Derek it's been too long but I thought I'd come and surprise you and Emma here" he said making me giggle
"Well it's good to see you but I'm no longer with Emma I got back together with Meredith and we have 2 kids together" I said
"Happy for you bro and who is this little man"
"This is our oldest Christopher, Christopher this is Daniel" I said handing him over
"Wuncle Danual" Christopher said grabbing his nose as we both laughed while we walked inside to see Meredith, baby Alex, Lexi and Lori sitting on the couch laughing.
"Look who's here" I said walking in the door
"Dan!!" Lori shouted as she got up and ran towards him pulling him in for a cuddle.
Lori and Daniel have always been the two people who should be together but never did.
"So this is the famous Daniel, nice to meet you" Mer said with Alex in her hand as she gave him a hug
"Now this must be the lovely Meredith and your beautiful daughter" he said taking her off Mer
"So Dan how's Scotland?" Lori asked as she walked back over to the couch as he followed. Meredith was going to follow but I pulled her outside.
"What was that about?" She asked sitting down on the bench
"It's just I felt then connect again and since Alex is asleep in Dans arms I thought maybe let them talk" I said as we watched Chris play.
"Mommy, Daddy can you come play with me" Chris shouted as he kicked the soccer ball towards the steps as we joined him.
Lori POV
"Did you ever think Derek would have all this?" I asked putting Alex in her crib
"Yea I did he was always the sensible one between us all" he replied
"I just can't help but feel jealous when I'm around the family. Do you ever want something like that?" I said watching Derek and Meredith lying on the floor with Christopher all laughing as Alex's car pulled up.
"Yes I do and that's why I came here. I've been thinking about this lately and I've realised that the person I want to start a family with is you. I've always loved you Lori more than a friend and I know that now I want to be more than friends" he said as I stood staring at him.
I moved forward and kissed him as the door opened and the four came in.
"Woah well it's about time you two" Derek said followed by a crash of thunder and the sound of rain flooding from the sky.
"Looks like we came in just in time" Meredith laughed
"Now what do you mean by that Derek?" Dan asked
"Well me and Mark always said you'd end up together...I'm happy for you" he said pulling us in for a hug.
About another hour later the rain hadn't stopped and we turned on the news to see if there was any update. The news said that the rain is meant to continue over night and everybody is advised to stay indoors no matter what.
"Well looks like I'm staying here tonight" Alex said
"It's gonna be a fun night at the hospital" Derek said as two pagers went off.
Derek and Alex were the two who were paged. Derek went to phone the hospital and was told him and Alex were needed at the hospital and had to be there for 2 patients that came in.
"Looks like we're walking" Derek said grabbing two coats from the cupboard.
"Derek be careful on those road ok i mean it.....I love you" Meredith said kissing him
"God Meredith isn't making a fuss is she ill?" Alex laughed putting on the coat.
"You too Alex be careful I don't want to lose the person who's more like a brother to me than anyone...love you bro" she said hugging him
"Love you too sis" he replied returning the hug
"Tell Lexie to be careful on the roads in the morning when you get to the hospital" Meredith said as she hugged them both before they left.
"Nothing can go wrong this time can it?" She asked me and Daniel as she leaned on the door........
