My phone went off in the middle of desert
"Derek no phones while we eat" my mom said
"Mom I need to take this" I said getting up
"Hello Chief Shepherd" I said
"Hello I'm Alex Benson from New York Presbyterian board and we would like to offer you the Chiefs job. It would be a year just until Dr Jamison comes back from maternity leave so what do you say" he asked
"Ehm well I need to go over my options but keep my name on the table I would gladly take the job"
" ok thank you Chief Shepherd just get back to us as soon as you can"
"Ok bye" I said hanging up the phone and walking back to the door.
"Meredith can I speak to you for a minute?" I asked and she nodded. We walked into my dad's old office.
"What's up?"She asked
"I just got offered a chiefs job at a bigger hospital" I replied
"Oh yea what one?"
"it's New York Presbyterian in New York" I watched her face drop from excited to angry.
"Derek you can't move to New York we're in a relationship together and you just want to pick that up and move to the other side of the country are you crazy" she shouted
"So I'm guessing you don't want to leave" I replied raising my voice slightly
"No Derek I don't want to leave I'm the chief of neurosurgery I'm seattle why would I want to go to New York where the best neurosurgeons are so no Derek I do not want to leave"
"Well meredith it's only going to be a year then I'm back in seattle so I'm taking the job even if your coming or not"
"Then Derek new hospital, new state you might want to start finding yourself a new girlfriend" she shouted then stormed off to get her clothes and then stormed out the house.
"What was that" mark asked walking into the office
"I got a job in New York" I replied picking up the phone and dialing Alex Benson's number
"Hello" he said
"Hi it's Derek Shepherd I'll take the job when so I start?" I replied
"20th of January so anytime between now and then you can come and have a look around"
"Ok thank you"
"Bye"
