The Grey Reality

Christmas Eve

I was lying in bed nice cosy and warm until I heard the door open and 5 noisy women come in. I could tell it was 5 noisy women because I could identify Carolyn, Nancy, Lizzie, Kathleen and Amelia Shepherd's voices anywhere.
I got up and picked up one of my crutches and made my way to the stairs. I got half way there and I realised I didn't have a shirt on so it was shorts and no shirt for this morning most likely all day. When I got to the top of the stairs David walked out.
"Hey dude need some help" he asked
"Yea please" I said holding on to his shoulder. We managed to get to the bottom of the stairs and into the kitchen where everyone was.
"Morning ladies" I said
"Oh my boy haven't I told you to be more careful" my mom said hugging me
"Derek aren't you missing something" Meredith said with her hand on her hip
"I'm going to the couch anyway and Mer can I talk to you please" I asked and she took over from David and we walked to the couch and sat down.
"What's wrong sweetie" she said
"First of all good morning" I said kissing her cheek
"good morning" she replied putting a hand on my chest
"Meredith I need to tell you something about Jen" I said
"Ok"
"We dated for about 5 years this was before Med school and It was when me, David and her were all in college together and I just thought I'd warn you in case something came up about our past" I said taking her hand
"Ok I'm not to bothered you are with me and she's with David it's ok" she replied
"Good"
I was leaning into kiss her when everybody came in.
"Family time!!!" Mom shouted
The rest of the day was filled with laughter and chatting and well cooking getting ready for the big day.
