Going home

"Chief Shepherd I'm glad to tell you that you are going home" Bailey said looking over my chart
"Thank you Dr Bailey but when can I go back to work" I asked
"well give it a few days then you can come back but your not aloud back tomorrow"
"What about my meeting today"
"Yes you can go to that"
"Ok thank you have you seen Meredith"
"Yea she's in the cafeteria so let's take out that IV and you can walk down and see her ok"
"Ok thanks Miranda"
I got dressed into the shirt and pants that Meredith left for me for the meeting and headed towards my office to put my bag in. After I went to my office I headed down to the cafeteria and I saw her sitting on her own with a book.
"Hey is someone sitting here" I asked
"Ehm no but I have a boyfriend" she replied not looking up
"Ok then I'm gonna sit here anyway"
She looked up and got excited.
"Derek what are you doing here" she said hugging me
"I was discharged 15 minutes ago" I said kissing her cheek
After another half an hour of talking I had to go to my meeting.
"I'll see you after my meeting ok" I said giving her a kiss
"Ok I'll wait in the attending's lounge for you" she replied
"See you soon"
My meeting lasted an hour but at the end they dropped a bombshell on me
"Dr Shepherd we need you too cut three attending's I know it's going to be hard but we can't afford this many attending's" the head of the board said
"from what departments?" I asked
"General, cardio and neuro" as he said neuro my heart dropped because I had to decide between Meredith and Nelson.
"Ok thank you I'll give you the final decision in two weeks"
"Ok thank you Derek"
I walked down to meet Meredith in the lounge and she was fast asleep
"Hey sweetie ready to go home" I said shaking her gently
"Yea lets go....how was your meeting?" she replied grabbing her stuff and taking my hand
"It was boring and not fun" I said but I still had the decision to make.
