I started cleaning up the cups and garbage all around the gym. The party was fun, but I knew I would be here cleaning up until two.

I started humming as I cleaned up, some song I had forgotten the words to. My back ached from bending over too much. I heard footsteps and stood up straight, looking to the door in the dim light.

"(Y/N)?" I saw a figure in the doorway as the light from the corridor flooded in. It was a guy. Wait. I knew that voice.

"Uh, yeah?" He flipped on the lights.

Niall. I started blushing immediately. I had told him I liked him a few days earlier and he just walked away with no expression.

"Someone told me they ditched helping you clean, so I came instead," he said, walking over to me. I brushed my hair over to the side and grumbled.

Chelsea wasn't reliable for anything.

"Yeah! Thanks," I said, yawning afterwards. He pulled over the garbage can and started picking up steamers and party hats.

"It was a great party, by the way," he said. I looked up at him. The silence that followed was nice. It gave me time to think.

Why was he being so nice? You'd think he would shoot daggers at me after what I had said to him.

"Thanks, Niall. 2014 could have waited, but we might as well celebrate, eh?" I joked. He laughed loudly and I looked away. It wasn't that funny.

After a half an hour or so, the gym was swept and vacuumed.

"Done," I sighed, looking at him. He walked over to the CD player on the ground and pushed a few buttons.

A slow song flooded softly through the speakers and before I could blink, he was next to me.

"We're not done yet," he said quietly. He held out his hand and I looked into his beautiful blue eyes.

"Niall?" I whispered, confused. He softly smiled and took my hand. His other took my waist and my hand found his shoulder.

Our eyes were locked and I swallowed my anxiety from his touch. I'd liked him for well over 3 years, and that was the closest I had ever been to him.

"What are you doing?" I choked out.

"Shhhh." I watched his lips produce the lulling words. "Just give me this, please." I said nothing more because I saw yearning in his eyes.

We both just soaked in the closeness of each other as we swayed gently, like the ocean on a calm day.

As the song faded and the player turned off, he looked into my eyes.

"I'm sorry I just walked away the other day. I should have answered you," he said. I shook my head, blushing.

"It's fine, Niall. You don't have to say anything," I said to him, looking down.

"But the feeling is mutual." My head snapped up to look at him.

Suddenly, my head pounded and I walked close to him. I watched his Adam's apple bob as he swallowed.

I lifted my hand and ran my fingers gently through his hair. A smile slipped onto his face. His hand found my jawline and he just looked at me. I blinked once and smiled too. He dropped his hand and then wrapped his toned arms around my torso, pulling me to him and keeping me there.

He pressed his lips to mine abruptly and I smiled. After a few seconds, our lips parted.

"I think this year's gonna be better than the last," he said.

"Ya think so?" I teased. He nodded, pressing his forehead to mine.

"Better than words," he mumbled, kissing me gently again.
