The thought of Niall proposing hung over my head and weighed me down constantly. I knew he would do it eventually, but he kept putting it off. It's like he was teasing me.
"Hey. Let's go for a walk down to the beach," he called from the living room. I was just finishing up washing dishes.
"Sure," I smiled, hoping he would try something. We walked down to the side of the beach next to our house, and he swung our hands back and forth as we strolled.
"Look," he spoke, and I could hear the smile in his voice. I stared out at the ocean as he let go of my hand to point.
A burst of water came up, and I grinned. I loved whales.
I turned back to smile at him, too, but he was staring up at me from the ground.
I gasped sharply, looking at him down on one knee.
"Sarah," he started as I felt my body freeze in place. "Will you wait for me to tie my shoe?" he asked. I watched him smirk at me.
"Niall!" I exclaimed, clenching my fists but not being able to keep down a smile.
"What?" he chuckled, actually tying shoe.
But that was only one example.
Another time, when we were in a meeting with our real estate agent about apartments, the agent was on the phone quickly on the other side of the room.
"Sarah," I heard him whisper in my ear. "Will you-"
"Niall Horan, you are not going to propose to me in the middle of this," I said sternly but with a smile.
"Will you get me a cup of water?" he smirked at me, nodding at the water dispenser. I groaned at him, but he kissed my cheek.
Another time, which was the most frustrating, we were separated. He was finishing up a few songs at the studio in New York City, while I was in Portland, Maine visiting family. We were five hours away, and we had been for a week.
My phone rang out of nowhere, and I stopped talking to answer it.
"Hey, Ni," I smiled, stepping away from everyone else.
"Hi. Can you meet me?" he wondered. I furrowed my eyebrows.
"Where?" I questioned, confused as to why. He gave me some random address.
"It's halfway," he sighed, sounding desperate. "I just want to see you."
"Okay," I smiled, telling everyone I was going out.
Three and a half hours later, I was at a rest stop, and it was raining. I stood under the cover of the entrance to the bathrooms, and then I saw his car pull up. He got out and hurriedly ran up to me, grinning.
"Hey!" I beamed, feeling the wind blow rain straight onto us. I squinted but when I looked down, he was on one knee.
"Very funny. You did not come all the way out here to play a prank on-" He pulled out a real ring, and my eyes widened.
"Sarah. Will you marry me?" I felt my heart spasm, and the only thing I could do was nod and smile, unable to produce words.
"Yeah," I exhaled, watching my new fiancée stand up and kiss me longer than ever before.
