I made sure all of the desserts were on the table, happy with the way everyone liked dinner.
Niall and I were having a dinner with some of our close friends for our four year wedding anniversary.
Our three year old son, Will, came running up to me. I smiled, picking him up and setting him on my hip.
"I saw Daddy kissing another girl," he giggled, making my heart sink.
"W-what?" I asked. I told myself it wasn't like that.
"Daddy kissed another girl," he repeated, nodding. I furrowed my eyebrows but smiled.
"I'll go talk to Daddy," I smiled, putting him down and watching him run off. I walked out onto the back porch, seeing everyone talking. I looked around for Niall, but he wasn't to be found.
My brain conjured up the worst.
"Have you seen Niall?" I asked his mom. She smiled.
"He and Sherry walked through the garden last I saw," she shrugged. I thanked her. Sherry was one of our friends from high school.
I walked towards the garden, trying not to panic, knowing Niall would never do that to me. Right?
I spotted them sitting on a bench, laughing. His eyes met mine and lit up. Something told me not to trust him, but I smiled.
"Dessert is ready inside," I spoke, smiling politely at Sherry. They both nodded, standing up. She walked off, but I caught Niall's hand.
"Hey. Will said he saw you, uh…" I couldn't bring myself to say it.
"Saw me what, Carla?" he prompted, putting a hand on my waist. I shifted away from abit, and he began to look worried.
"How's Sherry?" I asked before he could speak up. He smiled.
"She's great. She's engaged," he informed me. My suspicions lowered slightly.
"How are her lips?" I wondered, trying to be nonchalant. My cheeks heated up, seeing his confusion.
"Her lips?" he asked in disbelief. I exhaled sharply, pushing away from him.
"Will said he saw you kissing Sherry," I came out and said. He was silent.
"Oh, so you did?" I scoffed, starting to walk away. Silence spoke volumes.
"No! Carla," he called, running around to stand in front of me.
"The least I did was kiss her on the cheek," he told me. I was still on edge. Will ran by, and I perked up.
I called his name, beckoning him over to us.
"Is that the woman you saw Daddy kissing?" I asked, pointing to Sherry. He blinked, his long eyelashes shifting.
"Yeah!" he grinned, getting excited.
"Did I kiss her like this?" Niall chimed in, taking my face in his hands. He pressed his lips to mine, increasing my heart beat and making me sigh.
"Ew no!" Will exclaimed, beginning to run away. I called him back.
"How about like this?" Niall said one more time, kissing both of my cheeks like everyone does when they greet each other.
I watched Will's eyes light up.
"Yeah! But that's still yucky," he laughed, scrunching up his nose. I ruffled his hair abit, telling him to run inside.
Niall took my hand.
"Do you really think I would do something like that to you, Carla?" he asked me. The guilt set in.
"No. I'm sorry, it was stupid of me," I apologized, sighing into his shoulder when he pulled me into his embrace.
"It's alright, love," he chuckled. "Next time some guy at the market hits on you, can I get really defensive?" he asked, looking excited. I furrowed my eyebrows, smiling.
"You do that anyway," I pointed out.
"But can I get really defensive, just so you can see how it feels?" I ran my hand through his hair.
"Of course," I answered, earning a chaste kiss on my lips.
"'How are her lips?'" he mocked me. I shoved him on our way inside, and he ran. I caught up to him, and he kissed me once more, making my heart pick up.
"Well, your lips are perfect," he winked.
