It was funny that I was crying about him that day; he had left four years ago on that day, but it became funny later on.
I went on with my day at school, wiping my eyes as I came out of the bathroom. College was alright, but it was hard. Niall and I had said we would go to uni together and get all of the same classes.
It was the typical white girl love story; Niall auditioned for X-Factor and hasn't talked to me since he's become part of One Direction. I can understand that he's busy, but part of me
I shook my head at myself, finishing off the last class of the day. I walked home, feeling it start to rain. Soon enough, I was soaked through, shivering. Cars zoomed by me, and I told myself that I was almost there.
One car in particular pulled to the curb, and I jumped. The light in the sky was going out, so I couldn't see who it was. Maybe a rapist.
"Get in!" they yelled, and it was hard to oblige. I was freezing and their car was basically emanating heat.
I pulled open the door, flopping down on the seat. I felt twenty times heavier, sighing and looking up at the person who had been so kind.
I almost didn't recognize him.
"Niall?" I couldn't believe that he was there, right next to me, after four years.
"I-" His face was obviously surprised, and I registered the fact that he hadn't known it was me in the rain, pulling over to help me anyway.
"I've missed you," I spoke quietly, looking into his eyes. Puberty had done him well, but I missed my Niall.
"I didn't know it was you," he told me, shaking his head. He looked almost terrified, so I began to get worried.
"Do you want me to leave?" I wondered, finding the door handle. He furrowed his eyebrows, shaking out of whatever he had been in.
"No!" I bit back a smile. "It's a pleasant surprise, but a surprise is a surprise," he sighed, shrugging.
"Yeah," I let out, shivering once more.
"And besides, I was looking for you," he spoke quieter, smiling as he turned up the heat for me.
"You were? Why?" He coughed out, pretending like he hadn't heard me.
"Let's get you home," he grinned, staring at me for a few seconds. I directed him to my house, letting him make himself at home as I changed.
I sat down next to him on the couch, thinking we would start to catch up.
"I need to tell you something," he rushed. I blinked at him, nodding. The sight of him still surprised me, but I had to accept that it wasn't a dream.
"Okay," I whispered, nodding.
"I'm in love with you." The words registered in my brain, making me stop.
What?
"It's been four years, but it's been four years of wanting to see you and wanting to make contact, but I was so scared," he told me, shaking his head at himself and looking down.
"I was scared to tell you how I felt because I knew that we were just friends. I don't know why I think that's changed now, but I couldn't wait any longer." I chewed on my lip, blushing.
"I don't feel the same way," I told him, watching his face fall.
"What?" he let out, his shoulders dropping in defeat.
"Maybe I don't feel quite the same way, but maybe this will change that," I sighed, reaching over and kissing him. I couldn't say that I had never wanted to before.
And it changed everything.
