I started to wake up, groaning as I glanced at the time. My sigh rang out through the peaceful silence of the morning. I tried sitting up, but my limp body suggested otherwise. I flopped back down onto the bed. I closed my eyes again and thought.

Why should I get up today? I searched my mind as the birds chirped through the windows. I smiled as I finally remembered.

Today was the last day of school, and Niall would be there.

Niall and I had known each other for a while, but I had developed a crush on him way before that. Someone leaked to him about my infatuation and he came and asked me for confirmation. It was super awkward, but he seemed nervous, too. He just smiled and asked to be friends. That was two months previous to this June day, and we had hung out, as friends, several times.

I sat up again and smiled internally. As I got ready to go to school, I thought about the day. We always walked to the football field and watched kids play flag football all day. It was a running tradition for the last day before summer break.

I put on my outfit (pic on sidebar), and walked downstairs to eat some breakfast. I took a bagel out of the bag and toasted it. While that happened, I put my hair into a braid.

After another half an hour, I grabbed my phone, slipped on some sunglasses, and headed to the bus stop. I waited anxiously, knowing I would see Niall on the bus. I hoped I would be able to sit next to him.

I watched the sun slowly rise up from the horizon over the houses and healthy, green trees of my neighborhood, turning the sky all sorts of warm colors.

I watched as the bus pulled up, and I stepped on. I searched the bus for his smiling face, and saw him towards the back. I started walking and he looked up at me. Butterflies were released inside my stomach as he motioned for me to come.

I sat down in the seat next to him, but he didn't say anything.

"Hey," I said quietly, glancing at him. He inhaled slowly.

"Hi," he answered, clipping the short word. I bit my lip. Was he annoyed at me or something? I turned away, and we were silent for the rest of the trip.

I stood up as the bus stopped at the school and smiled when I stepped off. The air was beginning to turn hot, and I loved the warm weather.

I went to my homeroom and met up with my friend, Melody, as we sat down in our seats next to each other. I sighed, still thinking of Niall. She immediately looked concerned, and I quickly looked away, knowing she would want to investigate.

"What's wrong?" she asked. I shook my head, forcing a smile.

"Just abit tired," I lied. A few seconds afterwards, a yawn made my jaw pop. She didn't look convinced, but turned away from me as the bell rang. Our teacher told us we could start walking to the football field, and wished us a good summer.

I smiled at Mel, and we walked together, talking about plans for the summer. The sun was slowly ascending the sky while we walked, and we were laughing when I felt someone next to me. I looked to my right and saw Niall. My laugh ceased, but he smiled brightly at me.

I quickly thought about everything. He probably wasn't mad at me, he was probably just tired. Why should I be mad at him? I slapped myself internally. Nothing was wrong.

"Hey," I smiled lightly. Melody fell behind me, and talked to someone else, leaving us alone. I looked back at Niall, the bright sun behind him only defining his bright, blonde quiff even more.

"Hi, Aura. Excited for today?" he asked. I turned away and thought, playing his voice saying my name over and over.

"Yeah, I guess," I replied. I watched as his mouth dropped open.
