Anniversary (Request)

I put the flowers on the table with his card up against the vase, smiling at the perfect breakfast I had made. 

It was our two year anniversary, and I wanted to out-do the previous year's celebration, not that there was much to out-do. We kind of just cuddled and watched a new movie. That year was great, but two years is more important, I thought, so I wanted to make it special. 

I heard rustling in the living room and smiled. Niall was going to love it.

He stumbled into the kitchen, rubbing his eyes and smiling at me, giving me a kiss on the cheek. I smiled back, cleaning off the counters. 

"What's all of this for?" he asked. I looked up at the wall in front of me, deciphering his voice to see if he was joking.

He wasn't. 

I turned to stare at him picking up the card and trying to figure out what it was. I dropped whatever I had in my hands, snatching the card from his hands. 

"Hey!" he barked, surprised at my sudden action. 

"Do you really not know what today is?" I wondered, feeling the disappointment and anger flood through me. He opened his mouth to speak, but re-thought. 

"Your birthday?" My mouth fell open, utterly astonished at his oblivion. He shook his head in sync with mine as I stomped out of the house in disbelief.

He forgot, my mind sang at me. I didn't want to believe it. I had been hinting at it for months to make sure he knew!

"Lauren!" I heard him calling. Part of me wanted to forgive him, but the other part continued to stomp away pridefully.

"Lauren!" he repeats, grabbing my arm. I jumped, alarmed by his closeness. I marched on, only pulling away from his grip temporarily. 

"Please," he pleaded, stopping me in my tracks. "Our two year anniversary of meeting for the first time is special, and I'm sorry I forgot, but I completely remember now. How could I ever forget?" Hearing his apology made my limbs go loose, and I hugged him, saying a thousand sorry's into his shoulders.

There was nothing that could have made me love him more.
