I confidently strode down the aisle, beaming at all of the people there to support Niall and I.
I saw him at the altar and almost flinched when I saw how nervous he was. Was he having second thoughts?
I kept my nerve, continuing to hold my father's arm until he stopped. He kissed my cheek quickly, looking so happy for me. I smiled back, but Niall was worrying me.
I stepped up, and he immediately grabbed my hands in his, their trembling translating to mine.
"Niall," I whispered over everyone taking their seats. His eyes flashed with anxiety, and I wanted to slap him. We had been planning it for nearly a year.
"I'm scared, Shasha. I don't know my vows," he let out, rapidly shaking his head. I bit my tongue, understanding.
"Improvise," I shrugged, pretending no words had been exchanged between us. Everyone was quiet when the time came for Niall to say his vows. Mine had been very generic; I love you, you'll have my heart for all eternity and all that jazz. Niall wanted his to be the special one, and I was all for it.
"Shasha," he breathed out, smiling at me. Hopefully he knew some of it.
"Nothing can compare to what you give me; love, care, and. . ." His voice trailed off, his cheeks turning red under the pressure to say something.
"And your time," he nodded, remembering. I sighed out, squeezing his hand for encouragement.
"Something in your eyes is so wonderful and special, something that no one else could have. You listen to what I have to say when the ears of the world are shut tight, and there's nothing I can't ask- I mean, tell you," he stuttered, but I grinned at him regardless.
The words caught in his throat, or, probably, there were no words at all, just empty air.
I nodded him on, but he remained silent. The people behind us murmured lowly, and I wanted to tell them all to get a life.
"Don't leave my side," he suddenly spoke, quieting my thoughts and the whispers of the crowd. I looked back up into his eyes, seeing them start to water. He was improvising.
"I couldn't live without you even if I tried. You guide me through the dark and let me bathe in the light, and no one has ever done that for me. No one else ever can. I love you," he smiled. I let myself sob once, reaching out and hugging him so hard he let out a grunt.
"You may kiss the bride," I heard to my side. I let go of Niall, watching his eyes drop down to my lips. That simple display of affection set both of us on fire inside, his nervousness devoured by something much stronger, much more important.
Love.
