Cupcakes (Request)

I poked Niall a few times, watching him blink his eyes open.

"No," he groaned, turning away from me. I smiled, leaning over him and pressing a kiss to his lips.

"I'm up," he breathed out, smirking happily. I rolled my eyes, getting off the bed.

"We've got to make those cupcakes for Melody today," I reminded him, getting dressed in something comfortable (pic to the side).

"I want to sleep," he sighed, trying to sit up. I glanced at him, watching the sunlight stream through the window and hit his hair, making it look like fire.

"You always do," I scoffed, pulling my hair up.

"Then sleep with me," he begged, pouting at me. I gave him a look, walking back over to him. I kissed him for less than a second.

"Get up," I ordered, walking out of the room, but not before winking at him. I turned on the oven, getting out the two boxes of cupcake mix. Melody was having her 21st birthday party, and she had asked us to bring some cupcakes. Making them ourselves was cheaper than buying or ordering them.

Niall finally walked into the kitchen, rubbing his eyes.

"Wash your hands, and then we'll start," I instructed, handing him a box. We worked for a while in silence, and then he turned on some music.

I was trying to reach the sugar on the top shelf, and I was stretching as far as I could. I felt my shirt come untucked, and then I felt Niall's hand there. He touched the exposed skin, standing on his tiptoes and grabbing the sugar for me.

"Thanks," I blushed, quickly going back to making my cupcakes. When we had them all ready about five minutes later, the oven beeped that it was done. We put the two pans in, and I smiled at him.

"Thanks for helping," I grinned, glad we could do something right. We went and sat down on the couch, turning on the television. He snaked his arm behind me, pulling me closer by my waist. I smiled, continuing to watch the show we had on. 

"I think I deserve a kiss," he spoke softly into my ear at one point.

"For what? Getting up in the morning?" I teased. turning to look him in the eyes while he was so close to me.

"No," he chuckled, brushing his nose with mine. "For making you happy." My heart fluttered because it was true, and I held back a grin.

"Then I guess you do deserve one," I shrugged, turning towards him and kissing him like he had wanted. He left out a satisfied noise, making me smile. He leaned back, pulling me on top of him. I let go to laugh, trying to hide my burning cheeks.

"I love you," he sighed, making me look into his eyes.

"I love you, too," I whispered, surprised at myself. We didn't say it often.

I put my head on his chest and listened to his heartbeat for a few minutes, wondering how I got someone so perfect to be mine.

"Kaylene," he spoke, alerting me. I picked my head up and looked at him. I hummed at him, prompting him to continue.

"Do you smell something burning?" he wondered. We both realized what had happened at the same time, and I fell on the floor as he shot up. He laughed and pulled me up, both of us running into the kitchen. He opened the oven door, revealing black muffins in each pan.

I groaned, seeing him smile.

"That was such a waste of my time," he pointed out, taking them out and throwing them away.

"I guess we'll have to go get more," I sighed, shaking my head. He turned off the oven and sprayed the air with freshener, making sure the smoke detector wouldn't go off.

"We just made some, and it failed, like many of the things I do," he shrugged, taking my hand. "So let's do what everyone does when they fail at life."

"And what's that?" I played along, knowing very well what he wanted to do.

"Go to sleep!" he answered, pulling both of us back to bed for the rest of the day.
