I ran onto the stage in Mullingar, feeling the adrenaline race through me as the crowd roared. Even though it wasn't a stadium show or the O2 Arena, it was special nonetheless.
The X-Factor had been a journey that brought us recognition and much experience, but I wouldn't redo it if someone offered me a million dollars. I was glad to be where we were then, running on stage to perform our first concert off of the show. We delivered the two songs beautifully, Lizzy and I.
During one of my solos, I looked into the crowd, smiling at each and every single one of them. Suddenly, my eyes catch Niall Horan in the mix of teenage girls and boys. He was 1/5th of One Direction! They were still huge, even in 2016.
I looked away when he smiled widely, blushing but keeping my cool and handing off the next riff to Lizzy.
We finished, and I felt overly empowered like Beyoncé or someone. I was breathing heavily, but still got the words out.
"That was amazing," I choked out, struggling for air. She nodded, chugging down a water bottle.
"They were so loud," she commented, chuckling lightly afterwards. I nodded, smiling. Suddenly, my thoughts jumped back to Niall.
"Lizzy. Did you see Niall in the crowd?" I wondered, hearing the deafening shouts of the crowds begin to die down as they were exiting the auditorium.
"Niall Horan?" she wondered, squinting at me. I nodded my head.
"Hmm. No. I didn't see him," she shrugged.
"Well, he was staring at me," I told her, seeing that she didn't get it.
"Ally, I know he's your idol, but where else is he going to look? It's out concert, after all," she explained. I found the logic in her statement, sighing.
The crowd dissipated completely after a little while, and we waited until then to go out and look at the stage one last time.
I walked back out onstage, looking at the equipment and microphones, before I could walk any further, I looked out in the crowd, seeing Niall sitting there, smirking at the two of us. I stopped in my tracks, wide-eyed.
"Hey!" he called, standing up from his seat. I glanced at Lizzy, but she was already descending the stairs to the rows of seats. I followed her, careful to be light on my feet. The echoes in the auditorium were nearly deafening since everyone had left.
They exchanged a hug in the aisle, and when he let go and walked towards me, my heart nearly stopped. He was my age, but he was all I had talked about for my whole teenage life. I froze, but hugged him willingly. He had been sitting in an aisle seat, and it was still down. A few pieces of trash littered on the ground.
"You guys were great," he complimented. I smiled widely, hearing Lizzy chuckle.
"That means a lot to both of us," she said, glancing at me.
"Lizzy!" one of our managers called her from the curtain that led backstage. She shuffled off, leaving us a lot.
"I know this is a little forward, but you don't have to say yes," he chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. "But you should call me sometime." He raised his eyebrows at me, making me smile.
"But I don't have your number," I teased, knowing I was flirting but not caring.
"You do, actually," he said, turning to walk off. I furrowed my eyebrows, wondering what the heck he meant.
My eyes flickered to his seat, and I went to put it up to save someone else a few seconds. I saw a ticket on it, and I picked it up. I was about to crumple it up when I saw writing on the back. I smiled lightly, turning it over to see what it said.
Amazing show. You should use those amazing vocals you have to talk with me soon. Eventually, you'll have to return this ticket as well. I want it to be a souvenir. Here's my number.
I nearly screamed reading this, looking back up just in time to see him smile at me and then disappear around the corner.
