I stumbled into the doorway, laughing at his joke. I held my high heels in one hand, and threw the keys on the counter with the other. I hiked up the skirt of my dress (pic on sidebar) so I wouldn't trip over it as I walked through my living room and turned on the lights.
The uneventful night was supposed to be fun, but just turned out being me standing around. I had gone to a very important banquet with Niall and important people, only going after much persuasion.
He said, and I quote, "I need someone there, preferably my best-friend-in-the-entire-world, to save me from the boredom." I looked back on the moment, focusing on two words; best friend. My internal sigh was more of a groan.
I had liked Niall for quite some time, but like all other guys, he was oblivious.
I looked back at him.
"You can sit anywhere. Sorry for the mess," I said, chuckling abit as I admired him in his tuxedo with his tired eyes. He proceeded to sit down on my couch.
"Did you have fun?" he asked as I put away my shoes and grabbed a muffin. I glanced at him and considered lying.
"No," I snickered. He furrowed his eyebrows.
"I was there. How was it not fun?" he wondered. I smiled at his witty banter.
"I had fun with you, while you were with me and not with all those money-making-goons." Most of the time he was off talking to small, old men with lots of money. He chortled loudly.
"Goons?" I continued chewing a bite of my muffin, blushing abit at my choice of words. He waved it off when he saw my expression.
"Do you wanna crash here?" I asked. I looked up at him. "I mean, only if you need to. Or want to." I didn't mean to be forward.
"You're fine, Breanna," he laughed cutely. I looked away. "But, I should be okay to drive home." He yawned shortly afterwards, eliciting a smile from me.
"Or...not," he said, on second-thought. I laughed and my cheeks started to hurt from all the smiling.
"Okay, great. I've still got your clothes from the other night, so do you want those?" I wondered, starting to walk to the closet. He stayed over often, so we kept a change of clothes at my house at all times.
"Yeah, that'd be great, thanks," he said, standing up. I looked at him once more in his suit; he rarely wore it. I handed him his clothes, and ran to my room to get changed. I grabbed pajamas out of my dresser, but quickly found difficulty in removing my dress. I couldn't even reach the zipper. I groaned in frustration, and trotted out to the living room again.
"Niall, can you help me-" I looked up at him unbuttoning the last button on his dress shirt. He already had his sweatpants on, but his was now shirtless. "Oh, sorry, I-" I started.
"Help you with what?" he asked, trying to hide the smirk on his face. He pulled his t-shirt over his head, tousling his hair.
"Unzip?" I asked, turning and pulling my blonde hair out of the way.
"Sure, babe." A surge of happiness ran through me as I felt his fingers brush my skin. The fact that he called me babe didn't help either. I smiled like an idiot while he couldn't see me and as he unzipped my dress.
"There you are," he said, and I turned around so he wouldn't be staring at my bare back.
"Thanks," I smiled. I glanced at the clock while holding my dress together in the back. It was only nine.
"You wanna watch something before we fall asleep?" I asked, looking at him intently. I watched his exhausted face light up.
"Yeah. I'll get it ready while you finish changing," he offered, and I nodded. I started walking back to my room, but turned back because I could sense his eyes on my exposed back.
"Niall James Horan. Are you staring?" I accused, lacing humor in my voice. His face flushed red.
"No," he dragged out, turning his face from me. I let out a soft chuckle and went and got changed.
In the middle of Taken, I knew Niall had fallen asleep because a) his body fell limp against me and b) I would be able to hear his snoring across a crowded kids' birthday. I decided just to turn off the movie.
I poked him in the face, which was less than a foot away from mine, enough times to wake him up.
"What? Is the movie over?" he asked, sitting up and stretching. The warmth that had been pushed against me for the past hour left my side, and I watched the muscles in his back ripple as he cracked his back. He sighed in relief, and then fell back against me.
"I'm really tired," he exhaled. I looked at his face so close to mine again.
"Then go to bed," I laughed, blinking quickly to try to get the drowse from my eyes. Both of us fell silent, and only the sound of the crickets singing outside in the summer air mixed with our breathing. Our eyes were still locked, and I usually would look away after a few seconds. I found myself studying him, every feature of his face, which was so comfortably close to mine.
It all felt so right.
His hand reached up to push my hair behind my ear, and my skin tingled under his touch. I took a gradual breath in, and he let out a smile before pressing his lips to mine.
Finally.
