I know I passed out, my eyes are too heavy to open. I can feel I'm lying down, and hear the soft sound of a radio playing. I feel my self slightly swaying. I'm back in the car and I assume that Drew is driving me somewhere, to a hospital I hope. I can hear myself mumble and a faraway Drew telling me I'm okay that we're almost there. But sleep over takes me once again.
I jolt up, breathing fast. I'm on a bed, it's dark but I can tell I'm in a small room. There is a side table with a water bottle and a little note. I'm still breathing heavy and I'm too nervous to find out where I am. Am I being kidnapped? I erase those thoughts immediately. I look at the note, and turn the side lamp on and read,
Drink this, it will make you feel better, when you're ready come out to eat....Drew.'
Ok so I'm not being held captive. I get out of bed a little too fast and my head starts to feel heavy. I stand for a minute trying to regain my balance, I can hear talking from the other room. I recognize one voice, but there's a female voice and she sounds angry. I tip toe to the door, and listen in to what they're saying.
"You can't keep her here." Unknown girl voice says sternly. I hear a heavy sigh coming from Drew.
"Why not? You brought me in. I was like her just a couple of weeks ago. You gave me a chance. Why not her?" Drew whispers harshly.
I note that Drew can't whisper for his life and smile at the thought that he somewhat cares about my being. Is he some sort of a traveler, traveling city to city? He seems like he's lived here for longer than a few weeks.
I open the door, and can still hear them argue quietly as I walk down the small hallway towards the light of the dining room and small kitchen. Once they see me they both have a silent stare down, a hidden conversation. I smile and and greet them both. The lady turns and continues cooking ignoring my whole existence. My smile falters a bit, but I keep my composure and smile again when I see food placed on the table. Drew continues to stare at me, pity behind his eyes. I know what's coming next.
"Umm, I'll be leaving soon. I need to..." I start to say when I'm cut off by Drew. I look at him confused. Why is he stopping me? I slowly take another bite, waiting for Drew to continue.
"No. you can stay the night." Drew says a little too loudly. I see the girl frown harder than before. I don't think I'm welcomed here.
"I'm sorry where are my manners, my name is Lisa." Unknown girl says while placing more pancakes onto my plate. I welcome the on coming pancakes, look up at her and smile. She hates me.
"I'm Maple, sorry for intruding, but I'll leave. I don't want to be such a bother." I say with my mouth full. I'm hungry so I can care less how I'm acting. I see Drew shaking his head in protest.
"You're staying, it's going to snow and you have nowhere to go. You're staying." Drew adamantly says. He sits across from me on the table. I look at Lisa to see what she thinks and she just smiles and nods. Why has she all of a sudden changed her mind? I nod agreeing and greedily eat the rest of the food on my plate.
"You can borrow some of Lisa's clothes for tonight." He points with his head towards Lisa. "Oh no, I'm fine in what I'm in." I try to say, but Drew just ignores me.
"The bathroom is right down the hall if you need to wash up." Lisa says with a smile. Ok I'm starting to like her, she isn't as mean as before. But I still don't trust her.
"Excuse me, I'm going to bed. Goodnight, and Maple you can have the spare bedroom. Drew you sleep on the couch." Lisa says before exiting the kitchen. I look at Drew and he's just staring at me.
