"Oh please, don't play stupid." Sawyer says, as he sees me pretend not to know.
"A monkey could have figured it out..." He says, catching me in a lie.
I don't think I wanted to believe it. I made a baby with Sawyer. It's weird to think about, strange, and disturbing.
Sawyers phone rings and he takes his phone out of his pocket. He looks at the caller and back at me.
"I need to take this." He says and he walks to the door and out of my apartment. I hear him answer the phone and I walk closer to the door.
"Mia..." I hear him say and I press my ear on the door.
Mia? Is he still with her...
"What do you mean?" He shouts, but quickly lowers his voice. "Make sure you get it." He demands and he mumbles a few more words and then it goes silent.
He probably walked away. Not long passes before Sawyer walks back in and he sits on the couch.
"If you have something to ask me, just ask..." He says, still looking at his phone.
I don't want to assume anything, or start a fight. Sawyer isn't mine. I don't know.
"Nothing." I say and he relaxes back into the couch.
"Can I ask you something?" I ask, changing my mind. His eyes meet mine and he chuckles to himself,
"Yeah." He sits up and he gives me his full attention.
"Why are you back? Why now?" I question, quietly. I hold onto my braid, twisting it nervously.
Sawyer doesn't answer right away,
"I don't know." He breaths out and he looks a bit defeated. And I kinda believe him.
Things are quiet and I feel my face turning red,
"So me and you, huh..." I question quietly and Sawyer glowers at me.
Okay touchy subject.
"Is there anything you can tell me?" I ask desperately. "Why can't I remember?" I plead.
"Can you trust me?" Sawyer asks. I roll my eyes,
"No sawyer, I can't trust you. You left, now you're back. And you're not making the best case on why you're back so random..."
"Opal, listen to me." Sawyer interrupts.
No I'm tired of this and tired of him.
"No, just stop! You listen." I say through gritted teeth. "I'm tired of this, I'm sick of you always trying to be in my life, and keeping all these secrets."
"That's not what I'm do..."
"Stop! You're the most secretive person I know. You're so frustrating...ugh!" I scream, my hands flying everywhere.
"I just want you safe."
"This is exactly what I mean, you're always hiding something. You're protecting me? Protecting me from what? You're always saying I'm safe. You're always here watching my every move and I can't stand it." I'm pacing back and forth in the room, not able to keep still. I look at Sawyer and he's just sitting there, watching as I go on my rant, a serious expression on his face.
I stop pacing and stand right in from of him,
"Look, I know you can be a little protective over me and that's fine. Hell, I'm even fine with you being a complete asshole to me sometimes, because I can be a bit much. But you're leaving me in the dark."
