As soon as I hang up on Parker, I head straight for the entrance of the mall, that's where he told me to meet him. I wait about ten minutes before he pulls up in front of me. He lowers the window and smiles.
"Hop in." He says. I hear the door unlock. I slide into the black Mercedes-Benz. I have a bad habit of trusting others easily, but I'm desperate. I buckle in, ready for Parker to drive off.
"Where to?" Parker asks, driving out of the parking lot. Umm, I sorta remember how to get back. Wait, I have Sawyers phone. I can text Drew, but he's busy. Hmmm. I text Drew anyway, asking for the address of Lisa's house. Moments later he responds, glad he isn't questioning Sawyer since Sawyer should know. 5456 Tillamook Drive. (Side note: made up address) I tell Parker, he just nods, types it into a gps, and drives off. He doesn't seem like the nice guy from earlier and it puts me a little on edge.
"Your cousin ditch you?" Parker asks. I turn to look at him, not knowing how to answer.
"You could say that." I look out the window to make sure he's taking me back and not kidnapping me. So far everything looks familiar.
"I'm so sorry if this is an inconvenience, but thank you." He's focused on the road. I can't help but watch him. He really is a sight for soar eyes. He looks so familiar, but I can't put my finger on it. I see him smile, a toothy smile. My face flushes, he catches me staring. I turn my head away and hide behind my hair.
"No, not at all. It's no problem. I live in the city and was actually thinking of coming out here to visit my dad. I guess sooner than I thought." I feel horrible for making him drive a long way, but I panicked and he was the first person I thought of. Stupid Sawyer, I wouldn't be in this slightly awkward situation if it wasn't for him.
"How long are you staying here?" Great, more lying. I come up with a decent amount of days.
"Two weeks, then back to Canada." I say, maybe a little too loudly. Lying isn't my forte.
"Right, Canada." It sounds like he doesn't believe me. I cough awkwardly and look out the window.
"So who is your cousin, maybe I know him..." he pauses and continues again "or her."
"Maybe, umm my cousin is Drew." I look at him, I'm glad he isn't looking directly at me. My face is a dead give away, he would automatically know that I'm lying. I bite my lip nervously and stop when I notice I'm being obvious.
"Drew?" He rubs his chin in a thinking manner, while the other is on the steering wheel. "Hmm Drew, I know that name." It sounds like he has his last name on the tip of his tongue. I hope he remembers considering at this point, I hardly know anyone let alone their last name. He snaps his fingers.
"Yes, Drew Carter. I know him." He says proudly. I'm sure there are many Drews in the area I'm staying. He can't actually be talking about my Drew? Could he?
"He's living with, what's her face. Oh right, Lisa Ford." He says. When he says her name he sounds annoyed. Past history between them is what I'm guessing. When he says this, it confirms that he really does know Drew. My interest levels hike up.
"How do you know Drew?" I ask hoping he will tell me a long story about them. I sit there waiting for him to start. But of course, all odds are against me when his phone rings.
"Excuse me." His smile fades and he looks at me apologetically. I smile and nod, gesturing that it's okay. So close. Before long, we are in front of Lisa's house. I don't see the truck in the drive way, instead I see a familiar black car. Parker is still on the phone and I don't want to interrupt. I open the car door, turn to Parker and whisper a sincere thank you to him. He smiles and nods, gesturing with his hand to give him a minute.
