"Calm down. Shhhh. It's okay." I hear a distant voice coaxing someone. All I hear is movement around me and I'm pretty sure I'm lying down. My eyes feel heavy and I'm not able to open them. I soon feel like I drift deeper into sleep.
I shoot up from where I'm lying and I struggle to open my eyes, when I do I'm engulfed in darkness. My heart is racing; and my eyes can't focus. My breathing starts to feel heavy. I try remembering where I am and the last thing that's happened to me. I can't take in a breath and I start gagging.
"Hey, it's okay. Calm down." I know that voice, it's Sawyer. He turns on the lights and I see that he has me hooked onto an IV. He gently lies me back down.
"Where am I?" I look around still a little disoriented. "Why am I not in jail?" I look up at Sawyer who is eyeing me with concern.
"Jail?" Sawyer asks and raises an eyebrow up. He rubs his chin with his finger and thumb and continues to eye me. "Why exactly would you be in jail?" He questions further. I try remembering everything that's happened.
"I saw a man..." Sawyer puts his hand up to stop me, and glares at me.
"That explains why we fucking found you passed out on the grass in the front yard." His hard stare causes me not to continue.
"Explain this: I was arrested. Why am I not in jail?" Sawyer looks at me an sighs, irritated.
"You had a nightmare. Evan found you not long after he went to bed. He heard a door slam and went to check on the noise. Turns out it wasn't a rodent like he thought, but you." He finishes explaining and watches for my reaction.
"I could have sworn everything that happened was real." I scratch my head, extremely confused with everything.
"Have you been drinking enough water?" He finally sits down on an extra chair next to my bed.
"Yes, I drank a whole water bottle." I answer honestly. Sawyer looks at me and he drops his head down into his hands and sighs again.
"Explains everything now." He bluntly replies and checks the monitor.
"Why are you here? And what time is it?" It seems like he's always here to fix me or help me and I smile. Maybe he's not such a bad friend after all.
"I'm here because Evan didn't know what to do, so he called me. Don't flatter yourself." He says when he sees my smile grow, he knew exactly what I was thinking. My smile falls when I know he doesn't want to be here and probably has better things to do. "Turns out you have a severe case of dehydration." He flicks the IV and looks at me, all concern gone from his face.
I hear the door open from the room and I turn to the noise. I see Drew standing there, a worried expression on his face. He rushes over to me as soon as we make eye contact.
"What happened? Are you okay?" He asks, then turns to Sawyer. "What is this? Why is there a machine on her?" He starts questioning Sawyer. Sawyer is already irritated and he rolls his eyes at Drew.
"I had a dream." I tell Drew and Sawyers head snaps up from his phone.
"What was it about?" Sawyer asks and I turn to look at him.
"Not telling you. I want to talk to Drew privately." I smile sweetly at Sawyer, but he knows it's fake. He scowls, but gets out of the room. Drew sits on the bed and grabs my hand. I take in a breath before I continue.
"I'm not sure what is dream and what is real. I'll tell you what I remember last." I explain to Drew and he sits there listening intently, his chocolate eyes focused on me.
