I exit out of the room, so many questions zooming through my mind. I look down at the small green dinosaur in my hand and squeeze it tight.
I walk over to my bed, and lie back down. There's an actual child living in this house. It explains why Sawyer makes sure I don't snoop around. But why is he hiding that child? Is the child in danger?
Sawyer does seem like the overprotective type, maybe he's watching the child for someone. How long has the child been here?
I sit back up, my mind too alert to fall back to sleep. Ezra does seem like he's well taken care of, that's a good thing. Maybe Nancy watches over him and brings him food.
I'm too busy trying to find clues about my own life, that I've probably missed the obvious marks of Sawyer having a secret life.
Since I'm unable to sleep, I head back downstairs. I'm the only one awake it seems, so I head to the kitchen. I make myself a cup of coffee, and sit on the island chair thinking about Ezra.
I don't want to leave him alone in this house. He seems so bored here, all alone. And I'm not even sure if Sawyer is really the father, but they look so much a like. Just knowing that little boy is living here, makes me not want to leave.
I want to know everything about him, try to help him in anyway possible.
I drink the hot coffee and stare off into space, there's no way I'm leaving Ezra alone. Not a chance. But if I just flat out ask if I could stay here, Sawyer will definitely know something is up. I need to come up with a way, but what?
"Buenos días. Good morning." Nancy walks in, greeting me with a smile. I'm startled and spill some coffee on my shirt. I quickly down the coffee and put the mug in the sink.
"Morning." I say. She starts taking out pans and vegetables from the refrigerator, already in cooking mode.
Sawyer walks in soon after, and by the way he's walking I can already tell he's cranky. He immediately walks to the coffee machine, without giving a second glance to anyone.
"I'm making omelets." Nancy states over her shoulder. As I'm about to reply I hear a loud bang. Nancy and I both turn and see Sawyer holding a coffee mug, his veins popping out from his hand from how hard his hold on it is. The noise came from him banging the mug on the counter. Nancy and I look at each other and back to Sawyer confused.
"What the hell?" I hear Sawyer mumble and he scratches his head in confusion. He begrudgingly walks to the fridge and pours milk into his empty mug, and sits across from me.
"Good morning." I say with a smile. His eyes land on my face, he glares at me and brings his mug to his lips, without muttering a word. His eyes snap to someone behind me and he immediately smiles. I turn and see Mia walking in, her head down, trying to fix the string around her silk robe. When she looks up and catches Sawyer watching her, her eyes beam with joy.
Nancy places an omelet in front of me and I quietly dive in. I zone everyone out, but I still hear them mummer incoherent words. My mind draws back to Ezra. He has to be sleeping, or he might be awake playing. He should be having breakfast with his parents, especially Mia and Sawyer.
I angrily take a bite out of my food, how can they just leave him up there like that? I accidentally stab the plate with my fork and everyone turns to me, but I've felt Sawyers eyes on me before anyone's. I don't look at anyone specifically and sheepishly smile.
I look over to Nancy and see she's making an extra omelet. Before knowing Ezra was here, I would have assumed that was for her, now I know it's for Ezra. I calm a little knowing he's being fed.
