Tuesday rolled in way too quick. I didn't make it to class because I'm helping out with setting up for the party Evan is throwing. I don't mind, since I can easily catch up.
"Where do I put these?" I ask one of the workers Evan hired. He doesn't say anything and just points to the direction behind me. "Thank you." I politely say, he just looks at me annoyed and walks away. Okay? I walk to the table behind me and place the flower vases down.
"Shouldn't you be getting ready?" Evan says. He comes near me and fixes the vases I just fixed.
"Right." I say.
"Your dress is waiting." He tells me, his back still towards me. I scratch my head, not sure if I should go now or until I'm finished placing everything on the table. Evan turns around still feeling me behind him. "You can go." He says, with a small chuckle.
"Oh." I say timidly and speed walk to my room. The dress is laying on the bed, it's a simple black dress. It's flowy, with pockets. It's elegant, classy, and modest. I start getting ready, and straighten my curly hair. It takes me an hour to finally iron the last curl. I slip into the dress and wear nude colored flats, I'm glad whoever picked my outfit, wanted my feet to survive through the night.
I head downstairs and there are already some guests. They're all dressed fancy, and I feel out of place. Thankfully I avoid having to greet them for now and I hurry to find Evan.
"Wow, you look beautiful." I hear Evan say from behind me. I quickly turn, feeling embarrassed.
"Thank you." I laugh nervously.
Evan smiles, "Let's go greet our guests." He says, holding his arm out, so I'm able to loop my arm in his.
We head out into the main room and immediately Evan is swarmed with hellos and handshakes. They all over pass me until Evan comes in and introduces me as his date. I've been working on my fake smile and everyone seems to buy that I'm being genuine. We finish greeting a bunch of old men, who smell heavily of cigars. Im still embraced to Evan as he talks, and I people watch.
"Brother." Evan greets to Sawyer. I turn in their direction, great. They both exchange a handshake. "Nice of you to make it." Evan smiles, proud his brother is here. Sawyer agrees with his eyebrows, but looks slightly annoyed. Sawyers wearing a navy blue suit, and my eyes can't process this. I'm used to seeing him in jeans, T-shirts, and a beanie once in a while.
"Where's your date?" Evan asks. Sawyer eyes everyone in the room and steadies his gaze back on Evan. His eyes move over to me, but only for a second before looking back to Evan.
"Somewhere." He says with a shrug. "Well where is she? I want to meet her." Evan puts his hand on Sawyers shoulder. Sawyer immediately shrugs it off.
"Don't know." Sawyer says bored.
"Well Maple and I have some greeting to do." Evan says holding my hand. Sawyer snaps his head down towards me, his eyes meeting mine.
"That's not Maple." Sawyer says. Both Evan and I look at each other confused.
"Maple, Sawyer. Sawyer, Maple." Evan playfully, introduces. "You're Mr. Pay Attention to Detail, how did you not think it's her?" Evan chuckles.
"What the hell did they do to your hair?" Sawyer questions. I just glare at him not answering. He's pretending not to know me?
