"Where are you taking me?" I ask Sawyer hesitantly. I'm sitting in the passenger seat of his car. It looks pretty expensive, I think it's a black Range Rover. Right before entering his car, he warned me not to touch anything and made me promise him I wouldn't make a sound. I notice his grip on the steering wheel tighten a bit. He exaggerates a loud sigh.
"The mall, now shut up." He says rudely. I sit quietly for a few more minutes before another question pops into my head. I squirm a bit trying to distract myself, but the question is burning. I see him glance at me while rolling his eyes, and he lets out a louder sigh.
"For fucks sake, spit it out." He says and that's exactly what I do.
"About those rumors you mentioned..." I pause and look at his face. He looks beyond annoyed and ready to throw me out of the car.
"Never mind." I say quietly.
Those rumors are probably false and him telling me would make me feel worse. But curiosity is getting the better of me. Maybe he'll tell me eventually. Wishful thinking on my part.
The drive over is about an hour and a half, since we needed to drive out to the city. We finally -after a long and dreadful car ride- make it to the mall.
"Opal, hurry the hell up." I hear Sawyer calling from out side of the car. I'm taking in my surroundings, so I won't get lost. He can wait.
"That's not my name!" I voice out to him, while I climb out of the car. Where did he even get that ridiculous name?
"Right, sorry about that Sapple." He says. He's getting closer, but not quite. He's a few feet in front of me and I can't see his face, but I know he's doing this on purpose. We both enter the mall, and it's massive.
"No, that's not it either." I roll my eyes, this is going to be an exhausting day. He ignores my corrections. Typical.
"Opal, meet here in two hours." He's not even looking at me, he's texting on his phone.
"Stop calling me that ridiculous name. Really, Opal?" He looks up from his phone.
"That's your name, isn't it?" I look at him a bit concerned with his memory skills. He's holding back a smirk.
I know he's trying to get rid of me, so annoying me is his tactic. I sigh and start walking away from him. I have no idea where I'm going, but anywhere far from him is a start. My temptation to slap him is growing by the second.
There are so many stores, which one am I supposed to go to first? It's packed with people; I will most certainly get lost.
I've come to the conclusion that I really hate shopping. It's such a hassle to try on clothes. So far I have a few warm long sleeves, turtle necks, dark jeans, and tights. I move to the next store that has bras and underwear. I try to hurry and get what I need before Sawyer finds me.
Sawyer has really great timing. As I'm looking through the bras I hear a snicker behind me.
"Aren't those a little too big for you?" He mocks.
"You're so, sooo..." I have no comeback. My cheeks heat up from embarrassment and I see his smile grow. Why is he taunting me? I'm annoyed by his behavior and just stop trying. I completely ignore him.
I get what I need, leaving him behind. I need a break and I'm kind of hungry. I search for a map of the mall, so I can find a food place. Once I have the directions I head for a small cafe that sells sandwiches. I don't hear Sawyers heavy steps behind me and I smile triumphantly.
