Hell

Drip. Drip. Drip.

Watching the water drip off the rocks, Maddie was ninety eight percent sure she was in hell.

Which confused her, terrified her as well, but definitely confused her as she didn't know what she'd done to end up here. She'd been wild and promiscuous, sure, but it wasn't like she was... Evil or anything.

Not like him.

He was still looking at the wall. He was looking at the wall, and she was looking at him.
Always looking at him.

It was like being in a cage with a  viper. Don't draw attention to yourself, and don't look away, no matter how calm it seemed, or it would bite you.

He was still examining the wall.

Was he making a point of ignoring her?

That was a good thing, right?

Unless he only wanted her to think he was ignoring her.

Why were he and her in together anyway?
Even if this was hell, and somehow she had done something to get her here, they were hardly... Comparable. Surely cell mates or whatever would be more... Equal.

Unless this was her punishment. Although, whilst this was pretty agonising, she figured eternal punishment would be a bit more... personal.
Actually, now she really looked at it, this place kind of looked like a hellish, twisted version of the Caves of Reflections, and that was personal.

Everything she'd been through there haunted her.

But why everything else?

And then she twigged that this was actually quite effective, making her ponder all these questions, essentially making her torture herself.
Fear, confusion and trepidation. Waiting for an attack that was never going to come, in a place she feared. Eternally on edge.
Yup, that was her definition of hell.

Leaning her weight on her hands, she attempted to push herself up onto her feet from a squatting position, then yelped loudly as it gave out, sending her spilling onto the floor, cracking her shoulder against the rock.

Grunting, she dragged herself forwards, legs scrapping limply along the ground.

She reached for the water drop, thinking of drinking it.

"I wouldn't, if I were you."

And he speaks. So he wasn't ignoring her.
Thinking about it, he probably saw her reflected in the rock.

"Why not?" She said, moodily.

"Lake Lyn up there. I wouldn't."

Well, at least she wasn't in hell.

Aww, poor Maddie. But I think anyone would have a similar reaction in her position, to be fair!
