Louder

"So, do you hear it?"

"Sssh." Luci hushed, frowning. "Kinda... But not a lot. I'll agree there could be something though, but it's unclear. Could be a number of things."

"But it sounds man-made, right?"
"As I said, it's unclear. Could be a number of things."

Nyx huffed irritably. "Well, I think it sounds like it."

"Well, I hope it is what you think it is, cause I really want to get out of here." Luci said quietly, running her hand up and down the wall and looking at it thoughtfully. "I'm not staying in this hellhole."

Nyx also placed her hand on the wall, trailing her fingers along the rough lines, ridges and joints of the slabs of rock that made up the wall, as she walked towards the opening of the tunnel.

She was tentative to enter the cramped space, especially after what had ensued there recently, but stopped at the lip of the entrance, and tried listening to the wall there, standing on tiptoes to see if it was louder at a different level.

"Yup, I can definitely hear that. I'm not mistaken, there is a noise. Quite a few sounds now, actually."

Maddie gave Luci a look. "You go, I'm immobile."

Luci strode over, and had a listen. "So in short, she's found some noises."

"Oh, yeah, make me sound like a loon, why don't you?" Nyx muttered.

"Hey, I agreed there might be something, didn't I?"

"Hey, gimme a leg up."

Luci raised an eyebrow. "What?"

"Give me a leg up. I can't quite reach the ceiling."

"You want me to lift you up?" She said dryly.

"Uh... Basically, yeah. If you're happy doing that... " Nyx answered awkwardly.
"The tunnel ceilings just a few inches off my height, and I want to listen... It'd just be for like, one second!"

Luci rolled her eyes. "Fine. Just this once."

A few seconds later, Nyx called down at her, head against the ceiling.
"Definitely louder up here! It's coming from above, I'm sure about it!"

Luci let her down not too gently onto the floor. "Let me listen. You give me a leg up."

Seconds later, she was surprised. "That's definitely louder. Something's moving to rubble up there. There's a high chance we're being dug out, either directly or on the side of some other task. But I'd believe people are up there."

By my approximation, four more pages max until the end, assuming I'm savvy with including everything I need to.
