Falling

Nyx was falling.

Falling from a great height, through the air, clouds rushing past, ground racing up towards her.

Hair whipped around her face, and her arms reached out, up, up towards the sun as if she could grasp the golden beams.

She opened her mouth to scream, but no sound uttered forth, the wind whipping away her voice.

"I... I'm sorry..."

She sat bolt upright on the hard ground of the low, claustrophobic crevasse in the rubble, rock creaking ominously as she moved.

Hands tangled in her hair, gentle and soothing.

"Hey!" Alysha hissed angrily, then softened. "Hey, baby, it's okay."
