Nyx blinked awake, completey unsure how she'd ended up on the floor.
She blinked groggily, her head throbbing dully. Going to push herself up, she halted suddenly, seconds away from smacking her head against the sheath of rock that hung horizontally above her.Slowly, she reversed out of the small gap which forced her into some of the strangest positions.
Finally, she wriggled out of the tiny cramped nook that she'd somehow survived in.
The cavern she escaped into, in comparison, was like walking into Notre dame cathedral. Height-wise, it was jaw dropping. Nyx craned back her head, staring goldfish-like up at the miles long shaft stretching up, up, up.
Every footstep echoed in the silence, as she stepped onto the rocky, uneven ground, walking as if in a daze.
The shock of the last... What? Twelve hours? Fifteen minutes? There was no way to tell the length of time they'd been stuck here. It felt long, but her mind almost refused to think that any time had passed at all, that anything outside this place had had a chance to change.
Everything would be just the same when they got out, everything smiley and happy and big hugs for everyone, and then she could pretend this never happened. One could dream.
It was cold.
She'd never noticed how cold it was before.
The adrenaline of everything had kept her going, but now she was alone, it had crashed and now everything had hit her like a ton of bricks. She began to shake, and wrapped her arms around herself, pulling her sleeves down to cover her hands and wishing she had a decent coat.
It was shock more than the cold that seconds later made uncontrollable sobs wrack her body and tears trickle down her face.Wobbling on her feet, she collapsed to the floor, curling up in a sorry little ball.
